Weed Mapping

•What is it?

•Why?

•What are the benefits?

Page 3: Weed Mapping by Andrew Newall, SPAA Expo 16

What is it?

•A biomass image using NDVI

•It is a great tool for identifying high density weed areas

•These areas can then be treated in isolation

•Even more benefit in large scale paddocks and or farms

Why?

•So what? we know there are weeds in the paddock.

•However weed spectrum is never even across a paddock

•Target high density areas differently

•Higher sowing rate

•More robust pre emergent package

•It’s a numbers game

What are the benefits?

•222 hectares

•31 hectares high pressure

•191 hectares low pressure

•Blanket of Sakura = $8658

•Prescription Pre Emergent Package (Trifluralin as blanket and Sakura in high pressure = $3873

Saving of $4785
