Two Sentence Strategy for TDQs

o The best way to get a two sentence answer to a Text Dependent Question (TDQ):

a) Read the text, annotating as necessary OR maintaining the assigned active literacy activity.

b) Read the TEXT DEPENDENT QUESTIONS (TDQ) you are assigned.

c) Review the text AGAIN to identify the information you can use to answer EACH question.

d) Use the TWO SENTENCE STRATEGY to answer each TDQ question in at least 2 sentences.

• Two Sentence Strategy

1) Use the main idea of the question as your “sentence starter,” then use a DIRECT QUOTATION AS EVIDENCE! Don’t forget punctuation.

2) Interpret the quote. How does it answer the question?
