i. Organisms must feed on organisms
Food Chain
Autotrophs, also known as producers, make up the first level in all food chains which include plants and some aquatic photosynthetic plants. Exs. Grass and Green algae
1st-order-heterotrophs, also known as primary consumers, make up the second level in a food chain and obtain food from photosynthetic organisms. Ex. Turtle
Food Chain
2nd- order heterotrophs also known as secondary consumers, include some carnivores who feed on 1st-order heterotrophs. Ex. Owls feed on fishes
3rd- order heterotrophs also known as tertiary consumers, include carnivores (meat eaters) Ex. Bears
Food Chain
Decomposers - at every level in food chain, bacteria and fungi break down living matter and help release nutrients
