    The bride is the daughter of Gear-lener Henegan and Ernest Jones Jr. of Raeford. A graduate of Hoke High School, she is employed by Burlington Indus-tries.

    The prospective bride is a graduate of Fairmont High School and UNC-Pembroke. The prospective groom is the son of Stephen and Kerri Kessinger of Raeford, and is a graduate of Hoke High School and Robeson Community College.

    A June 7 wedding is planned for Hilton Resort, Kingston Plan-tation at Myrtle Beach.

    The U.S. Department of Agri-culture’s Natural Resources Con-servation Service is now accepting applications for its new Agricultural Conservation Easements Program (ACEP).

    ACEP, created through the 2014 Farm Bill, funds easements for agricultural lands and wetland reserves. ACEP combines former NRCS easement programs into one program with two components—Agricultural Land Easements (ALE)

    and Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE).

    would prevent productive working lands from being converted to non-agricultural uses and maximize protection of land devoted to food production. Cropland, rangeland, grassland, pastureland and non-industrial private forestland are eligible.

    Wetland reserve easements would restore and enhance wetlands and improve habitat. Eligible lands include farmed or converted wet-lands that can be successfully and cost-effectively restored.

    Applications are currently be-ing accepted for the ACEP-WRE component and will be rated ac-cording to the easement’s potential for protecting and enhancing habitat for migratory birds, fish and other wildlife. ACEP-WRE applications must be submitted to North Carolina NRCS by June 6, 2014.

    Volunteers were honored for their work at the annual Hoke-Raeford Volunteer Appreciation Dinner recently.

    Judith Soto was named Volunteer of the Year in the Individual category; Homer Tuttle was awarded in the Se-nior Citizen category; Monica Toleda won in the Disaster cat-egory; Roger Burns won in the Faith-based category; and Reba Locklear won in the Kay Thomas

    category. Amy Locklear also was nominated.

    Volunteers were recognized and honored with dinner, cer-tificates and plaques.

    Keith Walters, County exten-sion director, welcomed every-one. James Leach, chairman of the Hoke County Commission-ers, Robert Conoly, Raeford mayor pro-tem, and Jodie Bry-ant, representing the school system, brought greetings. The

    invocation was lead by Dr. Steve Castle of Raeford United Meth-odist Church. Special thanks were extended to the County of Hoke, City of Raeford, North Carolina Cooperative Extension and Hoke County Schools for sponsoring the event each year. Thanks were also given to the organizing committee of Keith Walters, Debbie Humphrey, Cathy James, Betty Smith, Stella Edens and Jodie Bryant.
