No, we haven’t been focusing on terrible jokes this month, but we have been focusing on honesty. The children had to work really hard with this value and after we all swiftly agreed that telling lies and being deliberately deceitful wasn’t a good choice, we moved on to the slightly trickier issue of white lies. After all, what do you say to someone when they ask you if you like their new haircut and you think it looks terrible? The children and staff concluded that it is always best to be truthful but you can find tactful ways of saying the truth so it doesn’t hurt other people’s feelings. It is very nice to be in a stage of life where I don’t have to worry about my haircuts! Martin Smith, Headteacher Upcoming events ISSUE 30 | June 2015 The topic title ‘Happy Families’ enabled the children to develop their enquiry skills. A huge turnout of parents and grandparents joined us to help the children gain a sense of what life was like in the past. The children drafted questions to ask our visitors and gained a great deal from the lesson. The next lesson will focus on comparing and contrasting the answers. Big congratulations! Congratulations to Mrs Mounsey who is expecting a baby in the autumn. Mrs Mounsey will be taking maternity leave for most of the next academic year and Mrs Brooks will be a high quality replacement, partnering Mrs Edwards to teach the Year 1 children next academic year. For news of other year groups, please refer to the recent letter sent detailing teachers and teaching assistants next year. This letter is also available on the school website. To be perfectly honest… Rock UK, The Frontier Centre Space is at a premium on this newsletter as so much has happened in the last month. However, the Year 6 Rock UK trip takes centre stage this month. Once again, staff and instructors at the Frontier Centre gave all the children a memorable experience with camp fires, climbing, walk the plank, raft building and the obligatory trip to hospital (nothing too serious, right Harry Charlton?) amongst the activities taking place. On behalf of the school, I’m sure you’ll all join me in saying a big thank you to Mrs Axford, Mrs Thingsaker, Mrs Smiles and the office staff. School trips, especially of the residential kind, do not happen without a lot of planning, organisation, selflessness and energy. The Curriculum Coming to Life If you missed our Curriculum Celebration Evening, Mrs Thingsaker and I spoke about how when redesigning our new curriculum last year, collaboration, creativity and enjoyment were high on our wish list. We were delighted to see the pinnacle of the latest Year 1/2 topic living up to these ideals.
