between the central unit and theair-handlers. This mixed water/gly-col circuit is maintained at approx.+4° C.All Webasto chiller units areequipped with high efficiencymulti-plate exchangers.Temperature regulation of the cen-tral chiller unit only concerns thewater temperature regardless of thenumber of active air-handlers.
Air-handlers/blowers can thereforebe slowed down or even complete-ly stopped without any incidencefor the normal operation of the cen-tral chiller unit.By slowing down blower speed orstopping selected air-handlers alto-gether, effective capacity transferto the other active air-handlers isobtained. This allows to install air-handlerover-capacity in specific locationsto cope with particularly difficultconditions (wheelhouse withexcessive glass area, etc.).
VOLTAGE - FREQUENCYAll Scroll/Rotary compressor unitsare dual-frequency 50/60 Hz; whenrunning under 60Hz coolingcapacity is increased by approx.10%.
400 V - 3 PHASE As from 30000 BTU, all singlecompressor as well as the multi-compressor units can be deliveredin 3 ph 400V - 50/60 Hz (Scroll) .
Other Voltages such as 208 - 3Phase 60Hz can also be deliveredfor certain models (please consult).

Functioning Principles :1) Regulate fresh-air entry into the vessel bytemperature differential outside / inside +combined air extraction control.2) Basic regulation by adjustable temperaturedifferential outside/inside with programma-
ble extreme limits + short cycle limits. 3) Provision for 2 stage integrated reheat (ACelectrical)4) Electronic controller provides 2 separateblower outlets : 1 for fresh-air input and 1 forextraction air out.Different speed settings possible for bothoutlets. All speed settings including max.speed completely re-programmable.Manual only speed control possible.5) Aldes flow regulators allow easy and pre-cise balancing of outputs per volume.6) Integrated Solenoid 3 way valve control 7) Special start-up procedure to eliminateresidual moisture in system.8) Three temperature read-outs : - outside airtemperature - chilled water circuit temp. -treated air input temperature (after chillercoil + reheat)

COMPACT SERIES AIR-HANDLERS HORIZONTAL CROSS-FLOW AIR-HANDLERS - TAN/H
Publication Date : 6th December 2006 SECTION 1 - AIR-CONDITIONING - PAGE : 17
AIR DUCTING - VENTILATION
1) MINIMUM AIR-GRILLE SEC-TIONS
To obtain acceptable noise levels at max.blower speed minimum requirements forgrille and ducts sections should be observed. Also the size of the transition box behind thesupply air-grille is important.See table here-under :
2) BLOWER OUTLETS (Drawinghere-under)
90° turns with flexible ducts directlyfrom blower outlets should be avoid-ed at all costs as they introducesevere restrictions in the air-flow.
All WB blowers (except on 24000 BTU
models) can be rotated through 45° steps soas to obtain a straight-line outlet from theblower. This facility should be used whenev-er possible.
3) RETURN GRILLE OFFSETIt is best to avoid placing a return air grilledirectly opposite the finned coil surface of anair-handler. This will inevitably allow propa-gation of direct blower-motor noise throughthe grille.Always try to offset the grille so as to chicane
the return air to the coil inlet. This will lower direct noise propagation in asignificant manner.
4) DUCT TYPE Flexible air-ducts should be of high qualitywith sufficiently strong steel spiral re-inforcement to avoid accidental crushing.Spiral type ducts should be extended to theirmaximum possible length for max. interior
smoothness. For very long duct sections preferenceshould be given to smooth bore ducts (inPVC for example) which offer a far greatersmoothness than flexible spiral type ductingand therefore will greatly reduce internalfriction.
For very short lengths non-insulated ductsmay possibly be used. Over greater lengths itis advisable to use insulated type ducts toavoid condensation on the outside of the air-
ducts.
5) BIG LUXURY YACHTSIn general requirments for megayachts andbig luxury vessels are even more stringentthan the table here-above.These special requirements can be obtainedfrom WB on request.
QUICK BTU CALCULATION GUIDE & AIR DUCTINGTo quickly calculate your BTU needs per volume, use the table below - be carefull with highly exposed wheelhouse areas. For extreme climatic conditions such as the Persian Gulf Area where sea-water temperatures frequently rise above 32° Cand outside temperaures to above 40° C, add approx. 25/30% over-capacity.

WEBASTO proposes a very completechoice of cabin blower controls :1) The MTH system, a simple mechanical
thermostat without blower speed control2) Mechanical Thermostat with integrated
3 speed blower control. 3) Digital cabin control with CAB230
controller + <AIR CONTROL> digitaldisplay + chilled water temp. sensor
1) MTH - Mechanical ThermostatThe mechanical thermostat is reversibleby a winter/summer selector. When set-point is obtained, the thermostat will stopblower operation.
2B) Plana (Vimar) Mech. Thermostat +3 Speed Blower ControlBased on the modular Plana series byVimar with the same features as 2A
3) Standard Digital Cabin Control(CAB230)This control system includes automatic
cycle recognition by the chilled watertemperature sensor attached to the entry ofthe chilled water air-handler. The CAB controller card includes most ofthe features found on the TECC mastercontroller such as :- direct chilled water temperature read-out- 5 manual speed settings + 1 automatic by
temperature differential- automatic blanking of display- calibration of all speed settings- up to 4 blowers on 1 CAB card
- direct set-point modification - choice between internal and external air
temperature sensor- thermostatic or continuous blower
operation- access code to programmable functions - visual alarm when water temperature at
entry of air-handler is incompatible with set-point as requested.
The CAB standard digital control systemis available in 230V AC and 115V AC.

All air-conditioning units based on her-metic compressors function on the sameprinciple : a compressor compresses therefrigerant gas which is then condensed toliquid when passing through a sea-watercooled condenser.Next the liquid refriger-
ant is injected through a small nozzle andevaporates. This evaporation process pro-duces the refrigeration effect. The evaporation takes place in a tubularfinned coil (also called : evaporator coil).A blower draws the air through the evapo-
rator coil. While passing through the evaporator thetemperature of the air is lowered byapproximately 15 °C.
So far for the general principles.
HOW DOES IT WORK ?
The BLUE COOL CLASSIC Self Contained Units - AN EASY SOLUTIONThe self-contained units areextremely compact and include onone single base all the compo-nents (i.e. compressor + con-denser + evaporator + blower),necessary to cool a cabin,salon/lounge or other volume.
The WBCC units are available inseveral capacities allowing tomatch almost all specific volumerequirements of the yacht.

HEAT CYCLEIt is quite possible to produce heat with anair-conditioning unit. For this purpose a 4-way reversed cycle valve is added. Duringheat cycle operation, the sea-water condensereffectively becomes the evaporator and coolsdown the sea-water. The finned evaporatorbecomes the condenser and produces heat toapprox. 45/50° C.Heat cycle becomes inefficient when the out-side water temperature drops below 6° Capprox.
