Orientation and Home Screen

Orientation1. Along top edge is the Power button.2. Along left edge is the Silent Switch and Volume Controls and.3. The Home button is the small circular indentation below the screen.4. Above the screen is the Ear Piece and Front Facing Camera.5. On the back side of phone is the Rear Facing Camera and Flash.6. The Phone Receiver, Speaker, and Power Port are on the bottom edge.7. Use a soft cloth with no glass cleaner to clean screen.

Turning On1. Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds.2. Wait 30 seconds for the phone to load.3. VoiceOver will read the current time.4. Go to the Unlock Slider and double tap the screen.

Sleep Mode1. Quickly press the Power button.2. Press the Home button to wake.3. Go to the Unlock Slider and double tap the screen.

Turning Off 1. Press the Power button for 4 seconds.2. Go to the Power Slider and double tap the screen.

VoiceOver1. Quickly press the Home button 3 times to start VoiceOver.2. Flick single finger horizontally to Move the VoiceOver Cursor.3. Double tap single finger to Select an app or button.4. Flick 3 fingers to left or right to Move between Home screens.

Accessing Opened Apps1. Quickly press the Home button twice.

2. Flick single finger to left or right to hear the names of the Opened apps.3. Swipe 3 fingers to the left or right at to see access additional opened apps.

Closing Apps1. Quickly press the Home button twice.2. Swipe 3 fingers to the left to move focus to the first app. 3. Swipe 3 fingers up to close the app. 4. Repeat to close additional apps.5. Press the Home button when finished.

Moving Apps1. Double tap and hold single finger until VoiceOver says “Moving App”.2. Drag app onto another to create Folder.3. Drag towards left or right edge of screen to move app to different Home

screen.4. Press the Home button to return to Home screen.5. To Remove Apps from Folders, open folder and move desired app outside of

folder box.6. Note: The Newsstand app cannot be moved into a folder.

Deleting Apps1. Only apps you have downloaded can be deleted.2. Go to desired app.3. Double tap single finger and hold until VoiceOver says “Moving App”.4. Double tap the screen to delete.5. Confirm Deletion.

Control Center1. Locate the status bar and do a three finger swipe up to open, Press the home

button to close.2. Provides shortcut for

Notes

Creating a New Note1. Swipe to and select “New.”2. Begin typing.3. When finished typing, select the Done button.

Using the On-screen Keyboard1. Touch and drag single finger until desired Letter is spoken.2. If in Touch Typing mode, lift finger and the letter will be entered.3. If in Standard Typing mode, you must double tap the screen.4. Double tap the screen for the Shift, Return, and Delete keys.5. Double tap “More Numbers” to enter numbers.6. Double tap “More Symbols” for Punctuation keys.7. Double tap “More Letters” to return to the alphabet.

Moving Between Notes1. Select the Notes button.2. Swipe until you get to the note that you want.3. Select the note name to open, double tap to open the note.4. To go back to the list of notes swipe to the “Notes Back Button” and double

tap.

Editing a Note1. Open the note for editing.2. Go to Text Field and select.3. Double tap and hold single finger on the screen.4. Drag finger along screen and listen for the desired location of cursor, then lift

finger. 5. Double tap the Delete button to erase.6. Type changes.

1. Press and hold the Keyboard Power button for 3 seconds to turn keyboard on.

2. Select “Settings” from the Home screen.3. Go to Bluetooth and double tap. 4. Swipe until reader speaks “Bluetooth On”, if it says Bluetooth off, double tap

to get it to say Bluetooth On. 5. Go to the “Apple Wireless Keyboard: Not Paired Button” and select. 6. The reader will speak “Apple Wireless Keyboard Connecting”, then the

“Apple Wireless Keyboard would like to pair with your iPhone”. 7. Enter the 4-digit number and press the Enter key.8. If successful, the reader says “Settings: Apple Wireless Keyboard

Connected Button”.

Using an External Keyboard1. Press the Left or Right Arrow to move around the screen.2. Press the Up and Down Arrows at the same time to Select an item.3. Use basic keyboard keys to Delete, Return, Shift and Caps Lock, add

Numbers and Punctuation.

Editing a Note Using the External Keyboard1. Open the note for editing.2. Go to Text Field and select.3. Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow to move Cursor.4. Press Delete to erase text and begin typing changes. 5. Use basic hotkey commands to Cut, Copy, or Paste text.

Deleting Notes1. Within a note, go to the Delete button and select.2. Confirm Deletion.

Contacts

Adding Contacts1. Go to and select the “Add button”. 2. Go to and select the “First: text field". 3. Type First name.4. Select the Return button or press the right and left arrow on the keyboard to

turn on quick navigation and then right arrow to the next field, double tap or press up and down arrow at the same time to edit.

5. Continue for Last name, Company Name, Mobile Phone Number, and Home E-mail.

6. When finished, go back and select the “Done button”.

Searching for Contacts1. Contacts are arranged by First letter of Last Name. 2. Double tap any name to view contact information.3. Within the contact’s information, double tap an option to select.

Editing a Contact1. Find and open contact.2. Select Edit.3. Type changes.4. Go to and select the “Done button”.

Deleting Contacts1. Find and open contact.2. Go to and select the “Edit button”.3. Go to the “Delete Contact button” and select.4. Confirm Deletion.

Calendar (Depending on veteran, may be completed Siri)

Viewing Events1. To view an event, go to the search button, double tap.2. Swipe until you hear the event you would like to view.

Adding New Events1. Go to the calendar year back button, for example 2013 back button, double tap

and then swipe until you get the month that you want, double tap, then swipe to the day that you want and double tap.

2. Go to the “Add button” and double tap. 3. In the “Text field is Editing: Title”, begin typing the Name of Event. 4. Move to the “Text field is Editing: Location” and type the Location of Event.5. Double tap on the All Day Event button to turn On or Off.6. Move to the Start and End Time, and select.7. Select Start Time.8. Go to the “Speaker Item Adjustable”.9. Flick single finger upwards or downwards to adjust the Date.10.Move to the right and adjust the Hour.11.Repeat for Minutes and AM or PM. 12.Go back to the End Time and select.13.Repeat same steps for End Time.14.When finished, go back to the Done button and select.15. If desired, choose to Repeat this event or set an Alert tone. 16.Finally, return to the Done button and select.

Editing and Deleting Events1. Search for Calendar Event and select it to open. 2. Select the Edit button.3. Use the same steps when Adding an Event to Edit the Event.4. When finished, select the Done button.5. To Delete an Event, within the Edit box, find and select the Delete Event

button and select, and once more to confirm.

Wi-Fi

1. Open Settings.2. Select the “Wi-Fi button”.3. Check to see if the reader says Wi-Fi On or Off. 4. If necessary, double tap to turn On.5. Go to desired Network and select.6. Type Network Password.7. Go to the Wi-Fi icon in the Status Bar to hear Connection Strength.

Connecting Bluetooth Keyboard

1. Press and hold down home button and say “Turn on Bluetooth.”2. Press and hold down home button and say “Open Bluetooth.”3. Press the power button on Keyboard.4. Voicemail:1. Press and hold home button.2. Say, “Open phone”3. Select the Voicemaile tab4. Touch the top of the screen.5. Swipe right to a person, time, date.6. Double tap.7. Bring phone up to your ear and listen to voicemail.8. Double tap.9. Bring phone up to your ear and listen to voicemail.

Favorites:1. Select Favorites tab2. Find the Add button3. Select a person from the contacts that you would like to add to your favorites

Beginning a New Message Conversation1. Go to and select the Compose button.2. Type the person’s Phone Number.3. Or, go to and select the Add from Address Book button to add an existing

World & Alarm Clock, Timer, and Stopwatch

Deleting Clocks1. Go to and select the World Clock tab.2. Go to and select the Edit button.3. Go to desired clock.4. Select the Delete Switch button.5. Repeat until all desired clocks are deleted.

Adding Clocks1. Go to and select the World Clock tab.2. Go to and select the Add button.3. Go to the Search Box.4. Type in the City Name.5. Press the Return button or key.6. Drag single finger to top half of screen.7. Navigate list of city names and select desired name from list.

Adding New Alarm1. Go to and select the Alarm tab.2. Go to and select the Add button.3. Go to the Hour Slider and flick up or down to change Hour.4. Repeat for the Minutes and AM/PM Sliders.5. When finished, navigate back to and select the Save button.

Viewing Messages1. VoiceOver will speak “Mailboxes: heading”.2. If not, double tap the screen, and select the Mailboxes: Back button.3. Choose desired folder to search for desired message.4. VoiceOver speaks Senders Name, Subject of message, and the Date sent. 5. VoiceOver speaks “Unread” for messages not yet read.6. Select the message to open.

Creating a New E-mail Message1. Go to and select the “Compose button” or press Control+N for a new

message.2. In the “To: Text Field is editing”, type the recipients e-mail address.3. Or, go to and select the “Add from Address Book button”.4. Or, open the Contacts app, and select the desired contact’s e-mail address.5. Go to the “Subject Text Field” and type a short title. 6. Go to the “Message Field Text Body”, and type message. 7. When finished, go back and select the Send button.

Replying to Received E-mail Messages1. Within an opened message, go to and select the Reply button.2. Begin typing reply in the Text Body Field.3. When finished, go back and select the Send button.

Moving E-mail Messages1. Open e-mail message.2. Go to and select the Move button.3. Select the desired folder.

Deleting E-mail Messages1. Open message. 2. Go to and select the Trash button. 3. Confirm deletion.

Deleting E-mail Messages in the List View1. In the list view move your focus to the email that you want to delete. 2. Flick one finger up, make sure you hear Trash.3. Double tap to delete the message.

Deleting Multiple E-mails at Once1. Select a mailbox2. Select the Edit button. 3. Select all the messages to delete4. Go to and select the Delete button.5. Confirm deletion.

Emptying Trash Folder1. Open the Trash folder2. Go to and select the Delete All button.

Screen Layout1. VoiceOver will read the Address Bar.2. Select the Reload button to update web page content. 3. Use the Address Bar to perform a Google Search to search the internet.4. Use the Back button to go back to previous web page. 5. Use the Forward button to return to web page.6. Next are the Share and Bookmarks buttons. 7. Last, is the Pages button.

Accessing Opened Web Pages1. Go to and select the Pages button.2. Unlimited pages can be opened at a time.3. Flick three fingers up or down to move between pages.4. Flick single finger to hear Title, Web Address, and Page Number.5. Double tap a page to open.6. Select the Close button to close web page.7. Select the New Page button to open blank web page.8. Select the “Done button” to return to last page viewed.

Searching for a Website1. Go to and select the “Web Address: Text Field Box”.2. Clear any text already entered.3. Type web address and select Go or press Return.

Share1. Go to and select the Share button.2. Share is where one can:

a. Save the current web page as a Bookmark.b. Save the current web page as a Home screen app.c. Add the current page to the Reading List.d. Send the web page as a link to an e-mail address.e. Post a link to webpage on Facebook.

Reader Option1. Certain websites have the option to be displayed as plain text without ads and

pictures.2. A Reader button appears to the left of the Address Bar if it is available.3. Select the Reader button.4. A new screen appears with just the article text.5. Use the VoiceOver Gestures to read article.+

Typing in Safari1. Some web pages have text fields and forms to fill out. 2. Select the Next button or press Tab to advance to next text box. 3. When finished, select the Go or Search buttons.

Web Rotor1. Twist two fingers clockwise to hear Rotor Options.2. Flick upwards or downwards to Adjust by rotor option.

App Store

Downloading Apps1. Go to and select the Search Tab.2. Type app name and press Return.3. Search through Results for desired app and select it to open.4. Listen for any Fee to install.5. Go to and select the Fee button.6. Double tap again to Install.7. Enter Apple ID password and select OK or press Return. 8. The device then returns to the Home screen.

Updating Apps1. Go to and select the Updates Tab.2. Go to and select the Update All button.3. Enter Apple ID password and select OK or press Return. 4. The device then returns to the Home screen. 5. You can also go into Settings:iTunes & App Store and set your Updates to

be an automatic update

Downloading Music, Movies or TV Shows1. Go to and select the Search Tab.2. Type song, artist, movie or show name and press Return.3. Search through Results for desired song and select it to open.4. Listen for any Fee to install.5. Go to and select the Fee button.6. Double tap again to Install.7. Enter Apple ID password and select OK or press Return. 8. The device then returns to the Home screen.

iTunes Radio1. Press and hold home button.2. Say, “Open Music”3. Select Radio tab.

To add a station1. The add button will always be the last tile in the list. You may have to three

finger flick up to get to it if you have already added a lot of stations. Double tap the add button to add a new station.

2. You now need to locate the search box, it is the gray box across the top middle of the screen and then double tap to edit. Then type in what artist or song you want, press enter.

3. A list of the music will appear, double tap on the one that you want. 4. It will start playing that station, and add it to your main page.5. To go back to the main page double tap the back button at the top left of the

page. 6. To play/pause the song two finger double tap.

To Delete a station 1. From the main screen tap the edit button located above you first saved station,

on the left side of the screen about half way down, double tap it. 2. A list of your stations will appear, find the edit button on the top left of the

screen, double tap it. 3. A list of your stations will appear, double tap the station you want to delete. 4. Flick one finger down and you will hear delete, double tap.

5. Find the done button on the top left and double tap, then find the done button on the top right and double tap.

6. The station should now be deleted.
