1. What differences in cinematography do you notice with this New Hollywood film?
New Hollywood, sometimes referred to as the "American New Wave", or "The Hollywood Renaissance", refers to a movement in American film history from the mid-1960s to the early 1980s, when a new generation of young filmmakers came to prominence in the United States. New Hollywood represents a more rebellious time in filmmaking, as the Hays Code (censorship regulations) had been disbanded. Many ‘18’ rated films such as ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’ were made during this time.
2. What differences do you notice between New Hollywood and Classic Hollywood?
Section C: Indie Hollywood
Major film studios are production and distribution companies that release a substantial number of films annually and consistently commands a significant share of box office revenue in a given market. In the American and international markets, the major film studios, often simply known as the majors, are commonly regarded as the five diversified media conglomerates whose various film production and distribution subsidiaries collectively command approximately 80–85% of U.S. box office revenue. The Big Five in Hollywood’s Golden Age were Paramount, Warner Bros., MGM, RKO and 20th Century Fox. Now, one of the Little Three, Universal, is also a major film studio. ‘Indie’ is a broad term to describe films outside of the major film studio monopoly.
