About Java Momma

Melissa Shoop

The idea for Java Momma came about in September 2017 to answer to the needs of many of my friends in direct sales. Melissa and Brian Shoop and business partner, (and very best friend) Adriona Spring, came up with the entire concept for Java Momma at their kitchen table one Friday night to serve the needs of our direct sales community.

This is DS done right - for the consumer and for the consultant.

Organic and Fair Trade

Java Momma's coffee is certified USDA Organic Coffee and we also carry a number of Fair-Trade Coffees from farmers in developing countries around the world.

We carry coffee from Bali, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Haiti, Rwanda, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Nicaragua, and Sumatra.

The Importance of Fair TradeFair Trade is a global movement. The meaning of Fair Trade is simple. It's fair prices paid to producers in developing countries.

But the impact of Fair Trade is complex and wide. When you purchase a Certified Fair Trade item, it's not just a label. It's a promise that the labor used to farm/create that item was socially responsible and equitable. Global monitoring on Fair Trade practices goes on daily to ensure the social, economic, and environmental standards are kept and maintained high, and a safe, healthy work environment is provided.

The purchases you make every day, when labeled Fair Trade Certified, will make global change.

What it means to be Certified OrganicBecoming a USDA Certified Organic operation is no easy process. There are a number of criteria the company must meet in order to be USDA certified.

To maintain the seal, the operation must be certified annually, have proper labeling, and provide a supply chain for their food handling and sourcing.

But what does it mean to be organic and why would a company want to jump through all of these hoops?

Being Certified Organic is better for the environment and the economy.

Research shows that organic farmers conserve water and energy more than non-certified organic farmers. Additionally, it increases soil health and biodiversity.

The economy grows because there is high consumer demand for Certified Organic products. The organic farmers are eligible for funding and assistance. They support local economies and receive a premium for their products.

It's also better for our health. Less pesticides - fresher food. From farm to table faster.
