(Think Lab 2011-2012quarter 1) (Take a look at some of the
projects we have done in Think Lab for Quarter 1. We are so excited
to be working with your kids and have some wonderful ideas for
Quarter 2. ) (Kindergarten) (In Kindergarten we worked on logging
in, including how to open and turn on the computer. We then
introduced Pixie to the students. They explored patterns while
learning some of the new features of Pixie 3.Graph Club was also
introduced as students collected and graphed data gathered from

(Quarter 1)
(first Gradeexploring the ABCs)
(First grade students explored the alphabet and using ABC order
to locate information. Using technology tools students practiced
putting words into ABC order. Students then investigated
dictionaries and used words they found to decorate the THINK LAB.
In addition they learned about internet safety and the importance
of keeping their passwords secure. Students practiced logging in to
the computers and learned to type in the program Microsoft Word.
Students learned to change the fonts and colors of the words they
wanted to share.) (Second graders spent the first quarter learning
different research techniques. After selecting books about animals,
the students used the table of contents and index to find important
information. Students then were introduced to internet searching
with online encyclopedias and web pages. In class we also discussed
ways to evaluate the quality of the sources they used. Students
also learned how to arrange their notes using bullets, sections,
etc. to organize their thoughts. They used the information to
create a PIXIE slide to share what they learned. ) (Research
Skills) (2nd Grade)
(Third graders explored the architecture of Ancient Greece in
the Think Lab. They became engineers and researched different types
of Greek construction. They used an online program to design their
own Greek temple. Next, students had fun using the digital cameras
and posing as one of the three types of Greek columns: Doric,
Ionic, and Corinthian. Using the program Fireworks, they did photo
editing to become the actual columns of a temple.) (greek

(Fourth grade students wrote short poems from the perspective of
a Native American tribe member. Students learned to use a new
program called PIXIE 3 to create digital stories using their work.
They learned how to insert pictures, record their writing, create
backgrounds, etc.Fourth graders also discussed what it means to be
a being good digital citizen, including copyright and the fair use
of someone else’s pictures in their work.Click the pictures to view

(Internet Safety/Glogster) (5th Grade) (5th graders used
Glogster to create interactive posters on internet safety. They
took photos and captured video clips to include in their glog.Click

together that we played at the PTA meeting.)
