The Three Billy Goat Gruff Herds Narrator: Once upon a time, there were three herds of billy goats. They were known as the Billy Goats Gruff. One day, they wanted to get some fresh green grass to eat. The green grass grew on the far side of a bridge. Under the bridge lived a troll. The Billy Goats thought it over. They decided to cross the bridge anyhow, for they were hungry. They sent the smallest goat herd over first. They walked across the bridge. Little Billy Goats: (softly) trip-trap, trip-trap, trip- trap, trip-trap, trip-trap. Troll: Who’s that tripping over my bridge? I’m going to gobble you up! Little Billy Goats: Oh, no! Don’t do that! Wait for the next Billy Goat herd. They’re bigger than we are. Narrator: So the troll let him cross. Soon the medium Billy Goats started to cross the bridge. Medium Billy Goats: trip- TRAP, trip- TRAP, trip- TRAP, trip- TRAP. Troll: Who’s that tripping over my bridge? I’m going to gobble you up! Medium Billy Goats: Oh, no! Don’t do that! Wait for the big Billy Goat herd. They will be along soon.

The Three Billy Goat Gruff Herds

Narrator: Once upon a time, there were three herds of billy goats.

Little Billy Goats: (softly) trip-trap, trip-trap, trip-trap, trip-trap, trip-trap.

Narrator: So the troll let him cross. Sure enough, after a short time, the big Billy Goat Gruff herd began to cross the bridge.

Big Billy Goat: (loudly) TRIP-TRAP, TRIP-TRAP, TRIP-TRAP!

Troll: Who’s that tripping over my bridge? It must be the big Billy Goat herd. I’m going to gobble you up!

Narrator: This time, the troll ran toward the big Billy Goats. But the goats were so big that they head-butted the troll off the bridge. The troll went running away. The big Billy Goats safely crossed the bridge. All of the Billy Goats Gruff danced on the fresh green grass.
