Ask your child to read the word, (do not read the word for your child first) Ask your child to say the sounds and work out the word. If he/she hesitates, ask them to say the sounds more quickly and have another go. (If your child is struggling to do this let his/her teacher know.) Ask your child to use the picture to help.
