This Month in the Classroom ELA- Begin to refer to details and examples when explaining what a text says explicitly Continue to practice summarizing a text Read and comprehend a variety of literary and informational literature on grade level (level L) Decode words based on text around them Decode regularly spelled two syllable words with long vowels Begin to self-correct and self-monitor comprehension Begin to recount an experience with appropriate facts and details and supply reasons that support an opinion /Write texts in which they introduce a topic and use facts or information from text. Write texts in which they introduce a topic and use facts or information from text Math *Measure and estimate lengths in standard units using appropriate tools Tell and write analog and digital time to the nearest five minutes (AM & PM) Represent and interpret data Solve word problems involving money including bills and coins Partition and describe shapes using halves, thirds, fourth, and wholes Science – Push, pull, and roll common objects and describe their motions Observe and communicate effects of gravity on objects Recognize that some things, such as airplanes and birds, are in the Leader in Me Information: We are continuing to model and discuss the 7 Habits. The habit of the month is Habit #3- Put first things, first. Have your child to explain and describe how they are putting first things, first. Ex: How can they Put first things, first by reading for 20 mins. vs. playing for 20 mins. Home Activities: Please join our PTO. The PTO is a vital organization at our school and the more participation we have the better resources we will have for our student body. We are a family school and it takes a village to keep Cotton Indian Elementary - Leader In Me- leaders inspiring to greatness. The Parent Resource room has plenty of resources to assist you at home with enrichment activities. You can come in and see what’s new. Mrs. Settle our parent liaison will be more than happy to assist you. Also parent opportunities are available i.e. Lunch and Learn sessions, Coffee with the Principal, CIE book blog. James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove (founding of Georgia); Sequoyah (development of a Cherokee alphabet); Jackie Robinson (sports); Martin Luther King, Jr. (civil rights); Jimmy Carter (leadership and human rights). • Identify character traits of Georgians (Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, Sequoyah) • Explain scarcity • Identify goods & services, • Describe and identify the uses of money.
