Wednesday 6th January
Good morning everyone, here is our work for today. Start by
writing today’s date in your workbook.
Reading Workshop
Remember our work from yesterday, adding verbs and adverbs to
sentences? Use your neatest handwriting to create really effective
sentences by making precise word choices. Underline your verbs and
adverbs again too.
Spelling
Look at your spelling list again and practise any words you find
tricky.
Handwriting
Practise your handwriting patterns in your book, exactly like we
do in class.
Numeracy
Carrying on with addition, try adding 3 numbers together. You
can set these problems out in the way shown or if you want to
practise using some mental strategies as a short cut, you could try
adding all of the tens in your head and write the answer down, then
all of the units in your head, then write the answer down. Then you
need to add the two totals together. Eg 1. 90 + 15 = 105
Now for the next piece of work (you could try the short cut,
mental strategies, again for the first 6 but then set the rest out
using column addition methods. For an extension task, try the
‘OWL’.
Literacy
We are going to focus on using a range of conjunctions (joining
words) in our own writing today.
Go to espresso – KS2 – English – English Grammar with this
icon
And click on the book ‘conjunctions and clauses’
Complete the ‘Missing conjunctions’ activity and the
‘Conjunctions Quiz’ task. Next, go on to the ‘Conjunctions and
Clauses – writing practice’ activity and choose one of the three
setting photographs to look at. Click on the blue ‘HELP’ button at
the top of the screen to read the instructions. Type your writing
in the box on screen and edit it to make sure you haven’t made any
mistakes and make improvements where you can. When you have
finished typing, copy your finished paragraph into your workbook,
using your neatest handwriting under the title Conjunctions.
Underline every conjunction and read through your writing to check
basic punctuation and spelling are correct.
Geography
We are building up our UK knowledge this term and are starting
with locating the 4 UK countries and their capital cities, the main
rivers and mountain ranges. On the map below, use an atlas, online
UK map or maps I have attached to this website post to locate the 4
countries and the capital cities of London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and
Belfast. Then use Espresso and go to – KS2 -Geography – Rivers –
Factfiles – Rivers in the UK - to help you locate The River Severn,
Thames, Trent, Ouse, Wye, Clyde, Mersey, Tyne and Lagan. Work hard
to draw the correct position of each river carefully and write the
name of each river neatly on your map. Finally, mark the main
mountain ranges of the UK on your map too. Try to locate the
Grampian Mountains, the Southern Uplands, The Pennines and the
Cambrian Mountains by shading the area they are found with a brown
coloured pencil and labelling them clearly. Stick your completed
map into your workbook
ICT
Use Purple Mash to complete the 4 coding activities that have
been set as 2dos. Remember there are video tutorials to watch too
if you need a reminder. You can also work on any Mathletics tasks
you still need to complete and practise French vocabulary on
Linguascope – ‘Numbers’ in the red section and ‘telling the time’
and ‘daily routines’ found in the blue section.
I will post tomorrow’s work for you at the end of the day.
Take care everyone
Bye for now
