Showing responsibility includes being reliable, dependable and accountable for one’s actions. Students will try to display that trait both in and out of school. If a teacher sees your child showing responsibility, he or she may be recognized on the Character Education bulletin Science This week we will investigate how mass and volume are measured. Ask your child to share science words with you to help them with new vocabulary. Mrs. Barnett is teaching reading to all the 4 th graders and Ms. King is teaching math. Your child has writing, science and social studies with his or her homeroom teacher. Please don’t hesitate to contact either of us if you have questions or concerns. We hope you will attend Family Night on September 18! A few reminders... Homework is assigned daily. Please check your child’s backpack for homework and notes every night! School hours are 8:05 Important Dates Sept. 18 – Writing Wizardry Family Night 5:00-6:30 pm in the cafeteria (hosted by 4th grade) Sept. 20 – Activity Day Sept. 25 – Picture Day Sept. 27 – Professional Development for teachers; no school for students BOX TOPS Buder School is collecting Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s soup label UPCs. The money earned is returned to Buder School to purchase needed materials and supplies. Please send all Box Tops and Campbell’s soup labels to school, or give them to Mrs. Thompson in Room 212. Fourth Grade News Communication Arts This week we will take the Acuity A Assessment. Spelling words: sweet, each, three, least, freedom, below, throat, float, foam, flown, greet, season, croak, shallow, eagle, indeed, rainbow, grown, seaweed, hollow Challenge words: Halloween, speedometer, underneath, cocoa, underneath In Reading students are practicing the Daily 5. In writing we are continuing to develop realistic fiction stories and learning the stages of the writing process. Students are expected to read for at least 15 minutes each night and complete a weekly reading log which needs to be signed. This is in addition to any other homework that is assigned. Mathematics We will take the Acuity A Assessment this week. In class we are working on adding and subtracng whole numbers, including using mental math strategies and esmaon to determine whether our sums and differences are reasonable and accurate. You can help your child by praccing basic addion and subtracon facts each night. Flashcards are a great way to pracce.

Character Education Word of the MonthThe character education word for the month of September is RESPONSIBILITY.
