News Feature: Impacted by Events

Finding a way to give back is always a perplexing task. It feels like nothing is ever

enough and sometimes not seeing the fruit of the labor is not motivating though its

there. Making an impact is one thing that people love seeing and sometimes

numbingly gives a blind eye to, because of individual day-to-day struggles. But

there are ways to give back with knowing whom you are giving back to, receive

letters or even attend events.

St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital has always been a pioneer when it came to how

a non-profit should run. The organization focuses on helping children and their families

get the treatment and not worrying about the bills. It is all made possible because of all

the donations that are made throughout the different landscapes of the country.

Most of the time people feel hesitant to donate because of not knowing where their

money is going. Some want to help but find it difficult to know when or where an event

is taking place. With St. Jude you can select a specific patient, receive updates via emails,

and sometimes even get letters from patients.

While donations have made an impact, St. Jude has found alternative methods for

people to donate, because this is a national non-profit, landscapes, weather and needs are

different across the country. The organization found that people feel better when making

an impact, while also enjoying their time. Here are some of the alternative events are

happening across the country that show the diversity in how St. Jude is reaching people:

Seventh annual Garden harvest-

You’re invited to spend a sunset, and see the stars in the St. Jude’s Garden in

Memphis Tennessee. This is a Southern six-course meal, and it does celebrate chefs

around the area along with the St. Jude culinary team. Promised to bring the healthiest

and locally harvested food, and for everyone to eat right and spend time with patients and

families. Enjoy seeing all the fall colors and the smell of the fresh foods at the Seventh

Annual St. Jude Garden Harvest.

Fourth annual “Against All Odds “poker tournament-

If you are planning a trip to the Sin City and want to create an impact, St. Jude will

host its annual celebrity poker tournament at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 3rd at the Red

Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Las Vegas. The event is hosted by actor Geoff Stults and

will include cocktails, dinner and both silent and live auctions along with a poker

tournament and philanthropy work to raise funds for the hospital. Celebrities and

professional athletes normally make an appearance and help raise funds. If you would

like to participate and love a late night event, this one is for you.

Fifth annual Detroit Gala-

If you’re looking to spend a night on a red carpet, appreciate impressive architecture,

and a “Give to Live” auction in the industrial city, this event is for you. It is hosted at the

Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, a must see in Detroit, and there will be a

special performance by Amine J. Hachem. St. Jude’s founding father was a Michigan

native and this event has existed since the existence of St. Jude’s but was re-launched as a

gala back in 2012 to celebrate St. Jude’s 50th anniversary of making an impact for

children and their families.

28th annual Wall Street Taste-

If you are planning on being in the Big Apple in November, the biggest Gala in Wall

Street charity events is occurring. Each year more than 600 supporters that represent

every major financial institution gather to celebrate the lifesaving work conducted at St.

Jude. Guests will enjoy restaurant tastings from some of the best places in New York

City, cocktails, auctions, a raffle, and hear patients stories an learn about Danny Thomas

philosophy, “ no child should die in the dawn of life.” This event is one of the biggest in

St. Jude, so if you would want to attend any, this one should be it.

There are more events occurring but these are some of the best ones in terms of

impact. If attending an event is difficult, or affording a ticket is out of the budget, people

ask “What about my area?” Well that is one of the great things about St. Jude. You can

actually create an event, chose a location; they will help you publicize it, and everyone in

your state about the event. Even if it wasn’t as successful, you would have still made an

impact, and that is one of the main goals of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
