Bye for now.

Subtraction by crossing out

Introduction This week we will be reviewing different methods to subtract. We will look at the many ways we can describe subtraction – take away, minus, less than, fewer than, difference, how many more. Today we will recall how to draw the larger amount and cross out the lesser amount to find the answer.

Key Questions- What does subtraction

mean?- Do we count forwards or

backwards?- How do we find what is left?

Task:In your distance learning book, copy the subtraction number sentence. Draw circles and cross out underneath. Count how many are left and record your answer.

Distance Learning - Week Beginning 31st May 2020

1stIntroductionOver the past few weeks, you have been looking at different objects and naming the material it is made from. You have also been describing properties of the materials.

Key Questions: - Can you name the object?- Can you name the material?- Can you use the science words below to describe the

properties of each material?

hard smooth bendy soft shiny rigid

rough dull waterproof

Task:Your task is to write down the name of the object, what the object is made from and name three properties of that material.

Example:

1. Object: spoon2. Material: metal3. Three Properties: hard, shiny and rigid.

Introduction Today’s lesson will focus on recognising and understanding the concept of subtraction. This means the children will demonstrate that they know that when we subtract two numbers, the amount decreases. We will discuss what we can see in the pictures and create subtraction number sentences based on what we find.

Key Questions- When we take away two numbers, is the answer more or less

than what we begin with?- What sign is this - ?- What does this sign mean = ?- Can you record a number sentence independently?

Task:The task today is to look at the picture and create, at least, four subtraction number sentences (stories). Each number sentence should contain the correct symbols. For example: “I can see four horses. Two are black.

So for my task I will write 4 – 2 = 2

Key Questions- Can you tell me different words to describe this sign - ?- Can you describe different ways of subtracting? (drawing and

crossing out, using a number line, counting backwards in our heads)

Task:Children to complete the Education City task reviewing subtraction.
