Here’s a round-up of new titles:

A Passion for China: A little book about the objects we eat from, live with and love by Molly Hatch

NEWSeptember Publishing.

Curated, written and illustrated by American artist and ceramicist Molly Hatch, this beautifully produced book explores the intimate family stories and fascinating history revealed by single, treasured pieces. If you loved The Hare with Amber Eyes then this is for you.

Molly takes inspiration from both her family and her years at the wheel as well as from the

pieces and patterns that have populated our family tables and shelves.

Each exquisite artwork is combined with the details and stories that make it special, whether it be a rescued milk jug or a Meissen platter. Drawn from kitchens across America, the UK, Europe and Asia, as well as her own, Molly evokes different cultures and past eras, as well as detailing the history behind ceramic traditions, individual potteries and patterns.

Throughout the pages there is a pervading joy and generosity; a love of gatherings and family, of patterns and china. A Passion for China is a book for anyone who has cherished their grandmother’s dinner service, admired cracked plates just for their pattern and memories, or asked for the story behind a beloved object.

Brutal London: A Photographic Exploration of Post-War Modernist Architecture of London by Simon Phipps

Photography, Architecture.September Publishing.

Brutal London presents a new photographic look at a side of the capital which has been ignored for too long. The raw concrete and imposing mass of Brutalist architecture is undeniably part of the fabric of London’s landscape – both visual and social – and part of our urban history. Momentum is now growing to celebrate, reclaim and preserve buildings which were once written off or allowed to decay.

This collection of unique and evocative photography by Simon Phipps casts the city in a new light. Arranged by Inner London borough and with full information on all buildings featured, Brutal London takes in famous examples such as the Trellick Tower, the Brunswick Centre and the Alexandra Road Estate, as well as lesser known housing and municipal spaces. It serves as an introduction to buildings the reader may see every day, an invitation to look differently, a challenge to look up afresh, or to seek our celebrated Brutalism across the capital.

Ways to See Great Britain: Overlooked Aspects & Little Known Corners of a Remarkable Country by Alice Stevenson

NEWSeptember Publishing.

After her first, much-loved book, Ways to Walk in London, Alice sets off beyond the capital with a clear eye and an open mind, to explore the UK’s lesser-known gems on foot.

There are local areas in grand cities, abandoned villages, urban seasides, strange follies and grottos, places of intense architectural contrast and cultural pilgrimages, which say much about Britain now and then. She also visits several purely lovely countryside landscapes that are often

missed for more famous counties.

With her artist’s eye, Alice reveals the real beauty, everyday eccentricity and historical curiosity of the UK.
