Child A’s Multipurpose Playhouse

Child A immediately showed interest with the two educators that were observing her on the playground. Child A approached the educators and asked for the educators names. Child A instantly got an idea on how to use the red and yellow playhouse she found on the picnic table in the playground. Child A asked the educators, “Do you want to play peekaboo with me?” She laid on the table that the playhouse was on and opened the small windows of the house and asked the educators, “Can you see me?” the educators said, “Peekaboo.” Child A tried to open the front door of the playhouse but could not manage. Child A went back to looking through the windows of the playhouse while playing peekaboo for several minutes. While Child A was exploring the playhouse she spontaneously got another idea on how to use the playhouse. Child A grabbed a car from the bucket that was on the floor next to the picnic table and started pushing her car down the red slide on the playhouse while saying, “1,2,3 go.” Child A rolled her car down the slide and as it rolled off the table and onto the floor Child A said, “I win.”

Measurement Exploration

Child A sat at the table at the beginning of small group time. She started to explore her green tray which had a laminated piece of paper on it with lines of different lengths. She grabbed a basked full of colorful connecting cubes and got the idea to connect the cubes together and then place them on her lines. An educator asked Child A, “Can you count how many cubes you placed on your line?” Child a then started to count her cubes. After Child A measured her first line with three connected cubes, she moved onto her second line. This time she created a pattern with her cubes while measuring the line. “Look I have four cubes and I made a pattern with the colors!” Child A exclaimed. Child A continued to make color patterns and measure her lines in sequences using the connecting cubes.
