Challenge B Planner 2020 – 2021
This is my Challenge B planner that is filled out for the week
broken into days. Sometimes I just have to make guesses on where to
put things when I break them into days. My son usually uses this as
a guide and not a hard and fast rule of when this must be done. But
there is an understanding that no matter when he does them, they
all have to be checked off by the end of the week. I use tables in
Word and sometimes it comes out funky. If you are not able to edit,
you might want to check out my PDF versions
Couple of notes about some of the sections:
Math - It just says “Lesson” for each day because I don’t know
when the test when fall each week. When we get to a test in the
schedule, we just cross out the word lesson and write in “Test”. On
the last day, it says “bring a math problem to class and
deMonstrate to a parent”. In the guide, it is listed as “Bring
questions or unresolved problems to seminar to work as a group. “
My Ch A class had a rotation of when they presented a math problem
so on a lot of weeks, we would just cross that out. One of my
Challenge A directors hardly ever had the kids present their math
problems so if you want to leave that in the planner, you might
want to check to see what your class is doing. Also there are some
things in the guide that are not added into the planner so you
might want to add them in if you want them in there – “Memorize new
definitions including terms, laws, rules and properties”
Research – History of Astronomy – I have how it is written in
the guide but then I also have some additional things that I added
and I have marked those as “NG” (not in guide) so you might want to
go through those and edit as you see fit. I also use the
abbreviation “KWO” which stands for “key word outline”. I wrote
what is in the guide but for all the assignments, it mentions to
see further instruction in the appendix of the guide so your
student will still need to look there.
American Experience – There are usually 2 short stories to read
each week so I just put them on the first 2 days but my son will
know that he can read them all on one day or choose 2 different
days.
Latin - These are broken up daily in a specific way. I have all
the “reading” on the first day but the way that I assigned the
grammar rules, vocab pages, and exercises corresponds with specific
sections of the book. I want to be sure they are copying the
grammar rules and making the vocab cards on the same day that they
are doing the exercises that those rules and words apply to.
Lost Tools of Writing – The guide does not assign the new book
right after you finish the old one. I don’t know why they do this
but I left it like that. If you want them to get started on it
right away, you might want to add that back in. For the sake of
space, I edited WAS: Children’s Literature assignment. On week 3,
it should read “Read WAS: Children’s Literature to introduce the
story. The review questions about characters, plot, setting, theme
and focus can add to your understanding of the story”. In following
weeks when they introduce a new book, they shorten it to “The
review questions can add to your understanding of the story”. I
don’t mention the review questions at all.
