This week we would like the children to concentrate on their reading comprehension skills. We have attached a reading booklet about Peter Rabbit. Please follow the process we would use in school:1. Glance through the questions to see what we might

need to look for.2. Read the story booklet.3. Answer the questions by skimming back through the

story. (We would not expect the children to memorise the text).

4. Answer the questions looking carefully at the instructions; find one word, tick two boxes etc.

5. Try to answer in full sentences: ‘Peter wore a blue coat’ rather than just writing ‘blue’.

6. Go back through and re read and check answers actually answer the question.

7. Never leave an answer blank. A good guess is better than no guess!

8. Reward yourself by watching the film !

Weekly spellings to learn:

Write these words in bubble writing, 3 times eachWords spelt with o but said with ‘uh’woman

wondermonthgovernbrotheranothershovel

Challenge: Can you spell them backwards?!

Don’t forget to look at the statutory word lists for you too!

Writing:Intended learning outcome: To write with quantifiers.

Related skills covered in school New skills that should be focussed onBasic punctuation – CLAFS Capital letters and full stops

Punctuation for speechInverted commas (speech marks)

Using quantifiers: enough, less, fewer, lots of, none of, both, each, every, a few, neither, either, several to explain the amount of something and so add more detail.

First word capital letterPunctuation inside the inverted commas“Time for assembly!” called Mrs Colmer.

For example: There were fewer children at the park than the week before.

Quantifiers are words which tell us how much there is of something.e.g. There were lots of birds on the bird table.

Write an interesting sentence for each of the quantifiers in the list.enough, less, fewer, lots of, none of, both, each, every, a few, neither, either, several

Challenge: Can you put quantifiers into a speech sentence?

Try your best to include:Have you included? You AdultCLAFSJoined up handwritingQuantifiersSpeech sentences

MATHSIntended learning outcome: To use an appropriate written method for divisionTo measure lengths (m/cm/mm); mass (kg/g); volume/capacity (l/ml) To count up and down in tenths; recognise that tenths arise from dividing an object into 10 equal parts

See the LJS progression in calculation document (available at: https://www.lymingtonjuniorschool.org/our-curriculum/#Mathematics-and-Times-Tables-at-LJS) for additional guidance as required.

Warm up:Visit https://corbettmathsprimary.com/5-a-day/ and select a daily challenge. TIP: Start at ‘Bronze’ and work up from there if required.

If there is anything that is missing or could be improved, go back to the work and try to add it in or edit what is already there. Don’t expect your first effort to be your best effort.

Session 2:

If we divide something into 10 equal parts we call this tenths

Instead of saying 10/10 we say 1 whole

Session 3:

Look around your home for some measuring gadgets that will help you measure the following:

lengths (m/cm/mm) mass (kg/g) volume/capacity (l/ml)

Have some fun measuring out different things – but don’t make a mess!

Can you think of an exciting way to record your findings?

PSHE/RelationshipsIntended learning outcome: To know information about people important to usTask:

When we get back to school we will all have a lot to talk about to each other. But how good are you at having a conversation? It’s important that we don’t just talk at people but we listen to each other and respond and value what they say.

We have attached some question cards that could be used to start a conversation. They would be good for finding things out that you might not already know! Give them a go with the people at home, maybe over dinner, during your daily exercise or if you face time a relative.

Have some fun – what do you think your teachers answers would be?!

Art/Famous BuildingsIntended learning outcome: To explore and examine buildings in a range of architectural styles.

Task:Use the attached famous buildings pictures to complete the following sheet.
