Policies and Expectations: Course Code & Titlein the EWU in the High School Program

Department of XEastern Washington University

The following outlines the policies, procedures, and expectations of the Department of X concerning the offering of Course Code & Title on a concurrent enrollment basis in high schools.

NACEP StandardsThe National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) is a professional organization for high schools and colleges that serves as a national accrediting body for Concurrent Enrollment Programs (CEP). This includes those courses that Washington State refers to as College in the High School. NACEP has outlined the following standards for all courses offered on a concurrent enrollment basis:

Concurrent enrollment courses offered in the high school are the same as the courses offered on-campus at the sponsoring college or university;

Students enrolled in concurrent enrollment courses are held to the same standards of achievement as students in on-campus courses; and

Instructors teaching college or university courses through the concurrent enrollment program meet the academic requirements for faculty and instructors teaching in the sponsoring postsecondary institution.

Curriculum RequirementsNACEP has outlined the following curriculum standards for all CEP courses:

Courses administered through a concurrent enrollment program are college/university catalogued courses with the same departmental designations, course descriptions, numbers, titles, and credits.

The college/university ensures the concurrent enrollment courses reflect the learning objectives, and the pedagogical, theoretical and philosophical orientation of the respective college/university discipline.

Faculty liaisons conduct site visits to observe course content and delivery, student discourse and rapport to ensure the courses offered through the concurrent enrollment program are equivalent to the courses offered on campus.

Assessment RequirementsNACEP has outlined the following assessment standard for all CEP courses:

The college/university ensures concurrent enrollment students' proficiency of learning outcomes is measured using comparable grading standards and assessment methods to on campus sections.

Evaluation RequirementsNACEP has outlined the following evaluation standards for all CEP courses:

The college/university conducts end-of-term student course evaluations for each concurrent enrollment course to provide instructors with student feedback.

The CEP conducts surveys of participating high school instructors, principals, and guidance counselors at least once every three years.

Syllabus RequirementsThe CEP Course Code instructor will use the Syllabus Template provided (also available ewu.edu/highschool) to insure that the following is included in the official CEP EWU course syllabus:
