Is cloning morally acceptable?

Historical Background of Cloning
1885 –First-ever demonstration of artificial embryo twinning:[Hans Dreisch shook a two-celled sea urchin embryo, which separated them then each cell grew into a complete sea urchin]
1902 –Artificial embryo twinning in a vertebrate:[Hans Spemann separated two cells of a salamander embryo; each of the cells grew into a adult salamander]
1903 - Herbert Webber coined the word "clon". 1952 –first successful nuclear transfer:
[Robert Briggs and Thomas King transferred the nucleus from an early tadpole embryo into an enucleated frog egg the resulting cell developed into a tadpole]
1995 – Scottish scientist clone the sheep Megan and Morag from differentiated embryo cells.
1996 - The first mammal was cloned from a cell of an adult animal. [Ian Wilmut created the sheep Dolly]
2000 - The first pigs cloned from adult cells
2005 - Snuppy (Seoul National University puppy) was the first cloned dog

VocabularyEmbryo: unborn offspring that is still in development
Enucleated: a cell without a nucleus Therapeutic cloning: nuclear transplantation of a patient’s own cells to make an ç from
which immune-compatible cells can be derived for transplantOocyte: immature egg cell of the animal ovary
Reproductive cloning: making a full living copy of a organism, Requires a surrogate mother
Surrogate: a substitute for someone else such as a surrogate mother
Did you know? Dotcom and Millie are the first pigs to be cloned from adult cells.
The first Mouflon was cloned from adult cells in Italy.
Noah was the first gaur to be cloned; a gaur is an endangered species.
A South Korean team claimed to have cloned coyotes for the first time.

Pros Cons"Human cloning allows man to fashion his own essential nature and turn chance into choice. For cloning's advocates, this is an
opportunity to remake mankind in an image of health, prosperity, and nobility; it
is the ultimate expression of man's unlimited potential." ~
religioustolerance.org liberal position
"...scientists who envision medical breakthroughs using stem cells from
human embryos are now moving on to human cloning -- breeding people for the purpose of harvesting their tissues and
organs from their bodies, then disposing of them." ~ religioustolerance.org
conservative positionMany believe that cloning can be used to replace failing organs. This will diminish the waiting list for organ donations and
allow more people to be saved. Not only that, but because the organ is, in fact, your own organ, there would be less chance of rejection. Your body would recognize the
new organ as your own.
Cloning children could foster an understanding that children can be designed and replicated to the parents’ wishes.
Healing and recovery times from traumatic injuries could be lowered because of
cloning. Using the person’s own cells, they will be able to recover that much faster and that much easier. Using their own
cells, they would be given the chance to truly heal with less complications.
95% of animal cloning has ended in failure due to genetic defects, and cloning is considered unsafe because of it.

Cloning can also provide more food and potentially better food sources since you
can clone things for specific traits that you would want
There would be a lack of Diversity, Cloning involves a process of creating
identical genes. As such, there would be a lack of diversity in humankind. Scientists
believe this lack of diversity will lower the human race’s ability to adapt. Plus, there would be a lack of diversity in the world leading to everyone looking the same.

These following statements are not true for all followers of the faith!
Catlholics Orthodox BuddhismCatholic Pope: Pope
Benedict XVI has issued a forceful condemnation of
human cloning and destructive
experimentation on embryos. The leader of the
world's billion Roman Catholics said scientists were guilty of offences
against human dignity by treating embryos simply as
"biological matter".
Father Antoni Ilin, a spokesman for the
Orthodox Patriarchate of Moscow. "We condemn
human cloning, whether for therapeutic or reproductive
ends,"
Dalai Lama: The Dalai Lama has no objection to cloning, only if it based in altruistic
motivation.
