Facts About O.S

An Operating System provides an environment for the execution of programs . It provides certain services to programs and to the users of those programs . Some of the services are been discussed below.

Operating systems (OSes) provide a set of functions needed and used by most application programs on a computer, and the linkages needed to control and synchronize computer hardware.

On the first computers, with no operating system, every program needed the full hardware specification to run correctly and perform standard tasks, and its own drivers for peripheral devices like printers and punched paper card readers.

The growing complexity of hardware and application programs eventually made operating systems a necessity.

1940.Computers of this time were so primitive compared to those of today that programs were often entered into the computer one bit at a time on rows of mechanical switches.

Very quickly, the input/output coding needed to implement basic functions was consolidated

into an input/output control system (IOCS).

Definition Operating system is the most important software on a

computer. It manages the computer´s memory, processes and all of its software and hardware. It allows you to communicate with the computer without knowing the “language” of it.

Parts of an O.S.

UNIX and 'UNIX-like' operating systems (such as Linux) consist of a kernel and some system programs. There are also some application programs for doing work. The kernel is the heart of the operating system. In fact, it is often mistakenly considered to be the operating system itself, but it is not. An operating system provides provides many more services than a plain kernel.

Functions of an operating system

It manages the computer's memory, and all the software and hardware of the computer. It also helps you to communicate with the computer. Something important is that without an O. S., the computer is useless.

It make sure everything is working right.

It checks for a new hardware.

Types of operating systems Multi-user and Single-user

Operating Systems: This type of OS allows to access a

computer system. It can be classified as multi-user and single-user.

Mobile Operating Systems: It controls the mobile device, its

design support the mobile applications, and built the multimedia formats.

Multi-threading Operating System:

They are made to permit parts of software programs to run at the same time.

Multiprocessing operating system:

Its created to work with many computers processors at the same time.

Software for an Operating System It is the most important software of

the computer. It administrates the computer`s memory, process, and all the software and hardware of it. The computer is useless without an operating system .

Video!

The video is about the Operating Systems of each computer.

It says that every Operating System changes through the time.

It talks about that every Operating System has disadvantages and advantages.
