The breakthrough of Web 2.0 technologies came in the areas of teacher professional development and supplemental instructional technologies, such as podcasting, streaming media, and blogging.

Convenience, collaboration, and convergence play a major role in technology’s relation to education. Convergence is nothing new in technology, as seen in Apples iPhone and iPods; which combine these technologies with full-featured support for web applications.

There is a continued trend toward more collaborative tools in education, such as blogs and wikis to online delivery of audio and video. The convenience factor implicates that users are able to get whatever they need off the web.

However, even with all the breakthroughs in technology for education, security flaws in Web 2.0 technologies raises concerns of its usage, and further slows institutional adoption.

Technologies that allow Web 2.0 to exist can be vulnerable to security issues and attacks that lead to data loss and theft and other malicious activities. These security concerns pose a bigger threat for schools, compared to consumers and businesses, as far as protecting from pornography, harassment, bullying, and identity theft.

Despite security concerns, Web 2.0 will crate new and inventive ways to engage both students and teachers in the learning process.

It takes a great deal to get new technology into a position where it is basically flawless, and still there are many errors in most technology that can lead to high risks. Therefore , it understandable that educational institutions would be slow to adopt any new technology. They have to give consumers and business the opportunity to test it out and discover all of the errors that can be harmful.

I believe that fairly soon most Web 2.0 technology will be converged with all technological devices, far more advanced in a collaborative sense than ever before, and definitely more convenient than anything this world has ever seen.

Like any new technology it will take time for most users to accept it and get into a habit of using it. I think the process takes longer when a technology is striving to be incorporated in education simply because there is a higher degree of security, setup, regulation, and technology in general being handled.

Its reasonable to say that the best technology should be placed in schools, since that is where learning takes place. However, its often difficult to implement a new technology when the teachers are unfamiliar with the concept and the different attributes associated with the technology.

I do believe that most schools and universities go through great measures to make sure they have the best technology; and are able to introduce and familiarize their students to creative ways to enhance their learning process.

Its seems as though blogging has been the first breakthrough in Web 2.0 technology. Its usage is rather simple, and there are many ways to implement this type of technology into education. The fact that there is not much complex learning and setup required for blogs usage could definitely be the reason it has been widely accepted across the globe.

Although the article does give great examples of how Web 2.0 technology can be, and has been used in education I, myself, had not, until this class every really had a hands on experience with blogs, wikis, podcasting, etc. during my educational experience.

ConclusionConclusionAll three articles have similar viewpoints as far as the potential and

benefits that Web 2.0 technologies can offer to education. Though, during their first introduction, these technologies did not have an immediate impact, as time passes and development continues it is evident that all schools, universities, consumers, and businesses will be engaging in great participation in all of the Web 2.0 technologies.

Many schools and universities at this point are highly interactive in Web 2.0 technologies, especially blogging and wikis. Its only a matter of time before the benefits are completely realized and Web 2.0 technologies becomes the main tools for education.

I believe that it is very important for schools to always stay advanced when it comes to technology because it is there that the learning begins. In many instances, if a person is not learning something in a classroom, chances are they are not learning it anywhere else either.

My concern too, with the continued technology advances is with the security issues. I often feel that the better technology gets the worse off we are due to security concerns. Advanced development in technology in general yields improved ways for learning, and hacking. However, we have to find ways to create an inverse correlation between the two in order to continue to promote technological advances.
