Runner Plus

• Runner+ is a web 2.0 technology for run lovers.

• If you create an account you can add your runs, you can read articles about running, and you can join forums regarding healthful habits, running, and ways to lose weight.

Runner+

How you set up the account• A valid email address and

a password are the only requirements in order to set up and account

How to make it functional

• If you want to begin adding your runs to your page, you have to hit the “CONTROL PANNEL” at the top right corner. Click then on “RUN MANAGER”

• By doing so you will be able to add your first run

• If you want to show the pace, and calories you have burned with your run you will have to go to SYNCRONIZE YOUR DATA.

Benefits

• If I were to coach a cross country or track team I will be able to keep track of the progress of my athletes.

• At the same time few interesting articles could help them prevent injuries, or help me design better programs for more successful meetings.

Frustrations or Perceived Barriers

• My own page suffers becouse of the lack of equipment need it to provide better details for each individual run.

• Also the people writing in the forum are not professionals, are just simple people with passion for long, short, easy runs. So a good student will be willing to ask a person with knowledge if what he just read makes sense or not.

Conclusion

Runner+ is a useful web 2.0 technology for logging  your runs. This task can be easily accomplished with a normal excel spreadsheet. The problem  is the need for expensive equipment (special nike shoes + ipod) for the log to be complete(pace, and calories). I will not advise using runner plus unless the runner already possessed the extra equipment

Voicethread

Voicethread is a web 2.0 technology incorporating broad visual and audio techniques, taking communication to the next level. Right now Voicethread averages about 36,000 visitors per

month.

• Go to Voicethread.com• Click Register in the Upper Right Corner of the

front page. You will need to input a valid webmail address and a password.

• Click on the tag under your name to add a profile picture and description

• Watch the tutorials, create voicethreads, browse through others voicethreads, or respond to other voicethreads.

What makes Voicethread so great

• You can communicate with students or athletes in a very interactive way.

• Upload an image or video file and then ask a question, tell a story, or make a demonstration using the doodling tool.

• An Example of this for athletics may be: Have game footage from a football game as the voicethread background. Then demonstrate good and bad behavior on the play, using a doodling tool and your own voice.

Frusturations with Voicethread

• The free version has a limited amount of voicethreads per user account. However, if you are using it for school purposes you can get a deal, especially if a large group wants to use it (but it will still cost you money if you want to use it often).

• The voice feeds play one at a time and cannot overlap. This is probably a good thing because it keeps people from overlapping, but makes for slower communication in general.

Voicethread Closing Thoughts

• I love Voicethread. The possibilities with this technology are so broad. I highly suggest any one in the education field to try it.

• I have seen voicethreads used in Foreign Language, Science, Labs, Math, History, Art History, Geography, Social Studies (Pen Pals)

• I have also thought of uses for Voicethread in Athletics (as seen in a previous slide)

• The one main deterrent for using Voicethread is that using it often will cost money.

CONCLUSIONThe Internet is becoming more and more prevalent in people's life; for this reason schools should be ready to teach all students the best way to use the web.The three web 2.0 technologies describerd earlier are just few ones that can help a person in several aspects of his/her life. From logging the miles run during a week, to keeping up with friends in other parts of the world.
