PHELPS FUND First Baptist members facing the financial challenges of a

medical condition which requires special nursing or home

care assistance can apply for limited funding for this

assistance from the church’s Phelps Fund. Applications

are available in the church office.

All of us have been concerned about isolation. We are encouraged to "Go Home. Stay Home" by highway signs and public service announcements. Isolation has its own unique set of problems. For those who tend to have depression, isolation

increases the introspection that can be damaging. For those who are in abusive relationships, isolation heightens tension. For those who wrestle with addiction, isolation makes staying balanced and under control more difficult. For those who need interaction to work, to learn, or just to enjoy life, isolation makes experience difficult. I would offer a couple of reminders to help cope with isolation. One, you are never truly alone. If you are a saved person, Jesus has promised "I will never leave you or forsake you." And if you have not yet been saved, you should remember that you can not flee from His presence nor can anyone keep Him away from you. Secondly, when you cannot talk with anyone else, you can always talk with Him. When no one else can hear you, He always hears you. This is particularly important when we are being kept from people we love and to whom we feel a responsibility to serve. You can still pray for them, God can still speak to them, He can still meet their needs. This isolation is not something that should diminish our relationships with the Lord. You are being kept from church, not from Jesus. If you wish to grow close to Him, you will not find a better time than now. Alexander Ogorodnikov, was a believer in the Soviet Union who was jailed for his faith. When his witnessing caused others to be saved, he was moved into a solitary confinement. He spoke of how sometimes at night, "Someone" would awaken him and always he'd be convinced that he had to pray for a particular person. He knew who the "Someone" was, and you do too. That same Lord is with you even in times of isolation. Finally, let me recommend a couple of good books to consider during this time of limited mobility. J.C. Ryle's Holiness is the best devotional reading I have ever done. Ryle was a Church of England Bishop in late 19th century, but his words are timeless. On the Missionary Trail, by Tom Hiney is a great story of a newspaper reporter who traced the work of the missionaries of the London Missionary Society in Polynesia. Stories of courage, sacrifice, and faith that will astound you. Both these books are available through Amazon's Kindle, or used copies can be had at a bargain.

CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS

The Constitution and By-Laws Committee will propose a change to the By-Laws regarding the Moderator of Business Meetings and Chair of Church Council. The proposals provide when the Church is without a Pastor and has entered into a leadership agreement with someone who is serving the congregation in the pastoral role, that individual will moderate church business meetings and chair church council meetings during his time here.

The Transportation Committee has a Golf Cart Policy and Procedure that will be presented.

Copies of the aforementioned proposals will be available at the church office and other locations that will be easily accessible once we are back to worshiping in person. Until then, if you would like to review the proposals, please contact Chrissy in the church office and request an emailed or mailed copy of the proposals.

COMMITTEES If a meeting is needed, a conference call can be arranged

or a Zoom video meeting can be arranged. Contact the church office a week in advance.

WOMEN ON MISSION Women on Mission groups will not be meeting on our

regular schedule this May, but you can still connect with us and share in our unshakeable pursuit of ministering to our
