The annual Carolyn Lumber Tournament highlighted much of what we value - camaraderie, good sportsmanship, competition, and fun. (Not to mention endurance!) Congratulations to everyone who participated. A big ‘thank you’ to the Club staff for the extra effort (and hours) to make the tournament successful and to the tournament committee for amping up the fun and keeping us all up to date on the results. Back in the Board Room, we continue to explore ways to improve our facilities. Lately, we have been focused on the outdoor doubles court and the pool and pool area. The outdoor court will need some fairly significant maintenance in the near future. Because we will be doing work on the court anyway, we decided to take a look at different options that have come up over the years. One of those potential options is converting the court to a clay surface. The pool also requires maintenance and we are moving forward with the following: a. Refinishing the surface with a commercial quartz finish - this is better than plaster and lasts longer. b. Remove and replace the perimeter waterline tile and perimeter coping stone. c. Remove existing tile racing lane lines and install four new tile racing lines with wall targets to coordinate each lane. This will include anchoring new sockets to accept lane lines. We will provide lane ropes. In addition, we will be exploring other ways to update and improve the pool and deck area based on the great feedback we received from the pool survey. Some of the key elements we will be exploring are improving the deck, increasing shade and upgrading furniture, among other ideas. NOTES FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Dear Irvington Members, The dust has settled and what a “rock-n-roll” two weeks we had here at our amazing Club! Lots of great tennis, incredible dinners, and good times were evident during our annual Carolyn Lumber Tournament. I know I say every year that it can’t get better, but it does! I can’t name all of the people, as I would fill up the newsletter, but you know who you are and I so appreciate the work and effort put into making this tournament the special event it is. I will say thanks to my staff and to so many of our members - you are the best! Coming up is our annual Wine Tasting Event. Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 16th in the ballroom from 6:30 – 9:00 pm. We have added a couple more local vineyards, so you won’t want to miss this fun event. We will be sending more details in email blasts and with signage around the Club. We will be starting the work on the new fence along the outdoor doubles tennis court and will be putting up some safety fencing which will block the sidewalk for a while. I never realized how complex it can be to build a fence, especially with the existing criteria we have to deal with (a retaining wall and very hard ground). The work started on November 1st, which means the outdoor doubles court is now closed for play. We will keep you posted on the progress. As always, I hope to see you at the Club! Barbara Thank you for all you do to make the Irvington Club the best! * The Irvington Club is a member-directed club. We have Board elections every February. IMPORTANT DATES
Dear Members,
One of the great things about serving on the Irvington Club Board of Trustees* is an increased appreciation for the passion and commitment members and staff have to make the Club such a cherished part of our shared community.
NOTES FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER Dear Irvington Members,
The dust has settled and what a “rock-n-roll” two weeks we had here at our amazing Club! Lots of great tennis, incredible
dinners, and good times were evident during our annual Carolyn Lumber Tournament.
I know I say every year that it can’t get better, but it does! I can’t name all of the people, as I would fill up the newsletter,
but you know who you are and I so appreciate the work and effort put into making this tournament the special event it is.
I will say thanks to my staff and to so many of our members - you are the best!
Coming up is our annual Wine Tasting Event. Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 16th in the ballroom from
6:30 – 9:00 pm. We have added a couple more local vineyards, so you won’t want to miss this fun event. We will be
sending more details in email blasts and with signage around the Club.
We will be starting the work on the new fence along the outdoor doubles tennis court and will be putting up some safety
fencing which will block the sidewalk for a while. I never realized how complex it can be to build a fence, especially with the
existing criteria we have to deal with (a retaining wall and very hard ground). The work started on November 1st, which
