Govt monitoring fluoride

content in water: Raman

BJP president Amit Shah

said here that the opposition

parties should bring forth a

united proposal to deal with

the issue of religious conver-

sions, rather than disrupting

the Parliament. “I just want

to state clearly that the polit-

ical parties, which have

objected to the issue of reli-

gious conversions, should

come together and bring for-

ward to the BJP government

a proposal which says that

the conversions are violating

the Indian Constitution,”

Shah said at a press confer-

ence here. The BJP chief also

touched upon the subject of

Maoists operating in

Chhattisgarh and was confi-

dent that the state govern-

ment would soon succeed in

defeating the separatists.

“The Chhattisgarh govern-

ment has been fighting

Maoists for the past ten years

and has been successful in

pegging back the extremists,

but this is an issue which

cannot be resolved overnight.

However, I feel that the state

government has been quite

successful in winning that

conflict so far and should be

able to defeat them soon,” he

ulated him, adding that the

Karond area still wears deserted look

Days after violence broke out between

the two communities in Karond locality;

pall of gloom has descended in the Aman

Colony where a number of houses of Irani

community had been set afire.

Karond area wears deserted look in the

aftermath of the violence. Almost all the

families of Irani community have left the

place and staying at safe places outside.

Taking precautionary measures heavy

police force remained deployed. The locals

mostly blame the Shias for the trouble they

invited for themselves. “Since they came

here the peace in the locality was gone.

They browbeat people for no rhyme and

reason. They didn"t allow people to go

through their locality despite the fact it

was a common passage for all. They

encroached upon plots of land and sold it to

several people and returned the same to

the plots owners only when the latter paid

handsome amount to them. Use of drugs

and snatching money and gold chains from

poor people by them was an order of the

day. However, the people who moved in

from Irani Dera refuted the allegations

against them. "If we had indulged in such

crimes, the police would have had a lot of

FIRs against us.

But there are no such complaints," said

Gulam Ali, one of the Shia leaders living

near Bhopal railway station.Peace talks

were initiated by the religious leaders of

both the communities, while a delegation

of the affected people has met Home

Minister Babulal Gaur at his residence

seeking justice. Meanwhile, police have

arrested around 33 people and the process

was still on. The Home Minister assured

the affected people that investigation in

the case was on and the guilty people

would not be spared. A written complaint

was submitted by the group which

belonged to Irani community. SP North

Arvind Saxena said that most of the

arrested people belonged to different parts

of the city. The investigation conducted so

far suggested that the locals had called

people from other parts of the city that cre-

ated problem in the colony. “Police have

identified most of them and intense search

for them is on.”

Students taking admission in the

first semester of current session in gov-

ernment colleges will be given smart

phones. This information was given at a

departmental review meeting chaired by

Higher and Technical Education Minister

Umashankar Gupta here recently. The

meeting was informed that concerning

to open girls’ colleges at district head-

quarters where there is no girls’ college.

He said that district headquarter-based

girls colleges will be upgraded to

Excellence Colleges. Gupta directed to

prepare a proposal to establish technical

wing in Higher and Technical Education

departments. He said that discussions should be held with

industrialists to spend amount of CSR on development of

colleges in their areas.

1,021 persons may need‘cornea transplantation’

in Chhattisgarh

t least 1021 out of 3512 people examined

during a State-wide survey conducted by

the State Health Department were found with‘white spots’ in their eyes and have lost their

vision. Most of them were youths, officials stated.

The Department has been looking for cornea tis-

sues in the eye bank so that such people can

undergo ‘Cornea Transplantation.’ The health

officials believe people may get back their vision

after the transplantation. An eye test campaign

was launched in all the development blocks of

each district across the State last month. Officials

visited from house to house and examined the

eyes of kids to elderly people.

The administration is getting them examined

in Raipur medical college, Bilaspur medical col-

lege, MGM medical college, and Aurobindo

Netralaya. According to State Programme Officer(Blindness) Dr Subhash Mishra the white spots in

the eyes have developed due to injury or due to

some chemical reaction and due to prolonged

infection. There were very few reports of eyes get-

ting affected due to vitamin deficiencies or mal-

nutrition. He said during the campaign there was

a need for creating awareness among the people

for eye donation so that cornea of those affected

by the diseases can be replaced. Dr Mishra said

that investigation of the patients of Raipur has

already been completed. The patients in Baloda

Bazar and Gariabandh will be examined soon.

District level teams would be sent to examine the

patients in places such as Ambikapur, Korea,

Jagdalpur and Dantewada.

The team will send serious patients to the eye

banks where they will be examined to find out if

they will get vision back by cornea implantation.

Incidentally, only last month, the State govern-

ment had reported that as many as 300 persons

mostly youth were found to be affected by ‘Cornea

Opacity’ during the eye testing campaign of the

Health Department held in each block of all the

districts of the State. During the campaign, which

was continued for 10-12 days, eye test of 25 lakh

people was carried out across the State. The

Department has been running the campaign in

the State for prevention of eye diseases. Like last

year, eye test of thousands of people was done by

organizing health camps in each block of all dis-

tricts, between May 5 and 16. In Raipur district,

camps were organised in the villages of Abhanpur

block last year. Dr Mishra said that eye test of

thousands of people had been done during the

campaign launched last year. Several people were

found suffering from different diseases. This year

the drive has been launched from May 5 to 16 in

each block of all the 27 districts.

 A State-level consultation

on child labour organised by

Department of Labour in col-

laboration with UNICEF was

held here recently. The consul-

dialogue, build consensus and

ensure collective action to pre-

vent child labour in

Chhattisgarh. The consulta-

tion hosted SCPCR, CHILD-

LINE, police, civil society,

media and various other

departments of the State gov-

ernment. It provided an oppor-

tunity to further understand

the complexities of the issue

and introspect on the facts and

findings of prevalence of child

labour in the State. The con-

sultation was also a step

towards drawing strategic

planning and comprehensive

plan of action for the State to

prevent child labour. While delivering

the key note address Professor Dr

Shantha Sinha, former Chairperson,

National Commission for Protection of

Child Rights, lauded the efforts of State

government in safeguarding child rights.

She said that getting education is every

child’s right and this will happen only

when children remain in schools or they

may fall for social evil like

child labour. The consultation

also emphasized that

ensuring access to quality

education to the children of

marginalized families is piv-

otal in addressing child

labour. Prasanta Dash, Chief

of Field Office – UNICEF

called for a policy change in

defining child labour as it

varies in the legislations like

Child labour Act and Juvenile

Justice Act. He also urged the

Government for better co-ordi-

nation and convergence of the

various departments for syn-

ergised efforts in curbing child

labour in the State. Following

the consultation, Department

of Labour in partnership with

UNICEF is organising a week-

long campaign to raise aware-

ness through civil society and

media on prevention of child

labour across the city of Raipur. The

Labour department will also organise

district-level consultations with all

stakeholders including labour officers.

Energy Minister Rajendra Shukla has said that the state government has made

concrete arrangements to supply power as per demand during next 20 to 25 years.

Energy conservation and saving is in itself like generation of power. He stressed the

need for turning energy conservation into a mass movement. Shukla was addressing

a National Energy Conservation Day programme at A.K.S. University in Satna.

Make energy conservation a habitShukla said that every person should develop habit of conserving energy. He said

that he switches on light himself on entering his bungalow and does not forget to

switch them off before moving out. He said that every person should be aware about

energy conservation and make others aware. Shukla said that MP is country’s first

state which has succeeded in supplying power 24X7 to industries.

Area under agriculture and its production is increasing in the state as a result of

adequate power supply to farmers for irrigation. Shukla informed that apart from

supplying 675 MW power in December, the state also succeeded in supplying 9500

MW power in the peak season. Total power generation in year 2003 was 4600 MW,

which has been increased to 13 thousand 398 MW now and would be increased to 15

thousand MW by March 2015. He said that apart from fossil fuel, the state govern-

ment is also striving for solar and wind energy.

Solar energy generation in the sate is 350 MW, which is targeted to be increased

to 2500 MW and generate 3500 MW wind energy by year 2017. He said that Asia’s

biggest solar power plant has been set up in Neemuch. Now, world’s biggest solarenergy plant is going to be established at Gurh in Rewa district which will have

power generation capacity of 750 MW. In the state, PPOs for generating 300 MW

solar and wind power have been signed. Social worker krishna Maheshwari said that

energy is the axis of a country’s development. Both conservation and augmentation

of energy are very necessary. Chancellor B.P. Soni said that 25 percent to 50 percent

energy can be conserved by using latest and sophisticated equipments. Reliance

Cement’s CEO Sunil Sachan also spoke on the occasion. The Energy Minister also

In order to improve business

potential of rice processing sector

of the state, the Odisha govern-

ment will provide incentives to

integrated rice millers for

upgrading and setting up more

processing units. The processing

mills will have facilities to pro-

duce rice bran oil and rice husk

power using surplus rice avail-

able in the state.

Recently, the state chief secre-

tary GC Pati had said there isneed for technology upgradation

in existing mills and new mills in

urban areas of the state. MSME

secretary Panchanan Dash said

there is no specific package for

funding the rice mills. However,

the provisions mentioned in the

Food Processing Policy 2013 can

be applied to investors wanting to

set up rice mills. The policy on

food processing will cover all the

benefits and ensure five per cent

per annum back-ended interest

subsidy on working capital loan

for first five years from com-

mencement of operation of the

units subject to a limit of Rs 5

lakh per year for five years.

The move is aimed at develop-

ing more rice mills in coastal dis-

tricts such as Cuttack,

Jagatsinghpur and other nearby

districts against the backdrop of arecent study which showed that

nearly eight such districts lacked

milling capacity compared with

their annual demand. Odisha has

been producing around 8 million

tonne rice every year. Around 60

per cent of it is processed at

domestic mills while the rest is

transported to other states.

steps to develop tourism

in the state by conserving

and renovating tourism

sites and putting in place

infrastructure and services to promote the state

as a prominent eco-tourism hub. Known for its

cuisine, culture and history, Punjab is richly

endowed with fertile farming land, and boasts

monuments, gurudwaras, sacred nes, temples,

develop these further, the Board is now keen to

hire consultancy firms to conduct feasibility

studies and for preparation of master plans. In

the pipeline are plans for conservation works,

civil works, landscaping, infrastructure like

roads and also eco-tourism projects. The func-

tions of the Punjab Heritage and Tourism

through public-private partnership setting up

tourism infrastructure; promote crafts and skills

related to the State; encourage expression of

artists in the mediums of painting, sculpture,

theatre, creative writing, music, films, documen-

Fazilka (Punjab)

Five rare Barasinghas (swamp deer),

found only in MP's Kanha TigerReserve, will be translocated to Van

Vihar National Park here this month.

"We are going to shift five Barasinghas

from KTR to Van Vihar this month,"

State Principal Chief Conservator of

Forests (Wildlife) Narendra Kumar said.

He said the move is being taken to

ensure that the Barasinghas do not

become extinct in case of an outbreak of

a disease at the tiger reserve spread

over Mandla and Balaghat districts of

MP. Right now, there were around 550

Barasinghas in KTR. In 1967, the popu-

lation of Barasinghas dipped to an all

time low of 66. Some wildlife experts

suspect that they fall prey to tigers and

other carnivores due to their inability to

enter deep forests as they have huge

antlers. After this, forest officials tried

to translocate them but the effort failed

to bear fruit. The deer died before reach-

ing their new home in Bandhavgarh

Tiger Reserve. "A previous attempt to

shift Barasinghas was made in early

1980s but it didn't work," KTR director

JS Chauhan said. "At that time, the

tranquilising methodology and trans-porting was not as modernized as it was

now," he said. He said Barasinghas are

found only in KTR. If this translocation

effort is successful, then another bid to

shift 50 more Barasinghas from Kanha

to Satpura Tiger Reserve will be made, a

the crisis that they faced, they have

shown that the targets can be achieved. It

is shown by the youth of Jammu and

Kashmir. "I felt happy and proud after lis-

them for their win," he added. Chief

Shaun Marsh will

replace injured

Michael Clarke for the second Test match against India, starting

at Brisbane from December 17, Cricket Australia said today.

Clarke ruled himself out of the remaining Test series against India

after limping off the field with a hamstring strain on the final day

of the opening match here. The scans have shown he has a torn

right hamstring. Besides Marsh, Australia have also added left-

arm paceman Mitchell Starc to their squad for the Gabba Test.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper Brad Haddin is expected to take over

captaincy from Clarke for the remaining three Test matches.

Clarke, who is also battling back spasms, went down in the 44th

over of India's second innings clutching his right hamstring.

nfortunately for Sony, the effects

of their hack are still being felt in

much of Hollywood.

And they just keep coming. Movie pro-

ducers poked fun at Obama being black.

Sony Pictures co-chair Amy Pascal in

extremely poor taste joked about

President Obama’s favorite actors and

movies.

A BuzzFeed report, which began with

Pascal inquiring what she should ask

Obama at a breakfast they’d be

attending.

 And producer Rudin responded: “Would

he like to finance some movies.”

Pascal replied: “I doubt it. Should I ask

him if he liked DJANGO?”

To which Rudin responded: “12 YEARS.”

Then they take part in a very idiotic

exchange of movies that star black

actors. And Rudin finally says, “I bet he

likes Kevin Hart.”

6 things we learntfrom Sony hack

The hacking of Sony Pictures has taken

a humiliating turn for the company after pri-

vate exchanges, deep secrets, personal opin-

ions and inner employee feuds were released to

the public. Hackers sent a message on 24

November that read: "This is just the begin-

ning... we've obtained all your internal data

including your secrets and top secrets."

hile Smriti Irani has been

trying to deliver her duties as

 Human Resources &

 Development minister for the past

six months, she has failed to keep

the commitments she made as an

actress. As a result of this, T-series

have finally decided to replace Irani

in their next film, All is Well and

will reportedly start shooting with a

new actress in January. A source

told Mumbai Mirror that the film

has to be completely reshot, owing to

Irani's exit. Irani was supposed to

 play the role of Abhishek

 Bachchan's mother in the film.

Reportedly, Irani shot her bits in

 November 2013, however, the shoot-

ing took longer than expected. Soon

after, Irani got busy with her politi-

cal responsibilities and couldn't

make time for further filming. After

she took over as a minister, the mak-

ers decided to scrap shoots in

Shimla and Bangkok due to her

busy schedule, and just wanted her

to make time for the climax shoot.

 After six months of waiting

around when that didn't hap-

 pen, T-series finally decided

to replace her. The re-

shooting and delays is

likely to cost a lot but Bhushan Kumar of T-

series says that there is no

hard feelings about the cabi-

net minister quitting. In fact, he

mentioned that the other cast mem-

bers of the film have been supportive

towards her, including actors like

Bachchan, who tried to work his

dates around, so that Irani can film

the remaining parts of the movie.

Sawant has publicly slapped Sachendra Sharma,

the director of "Mumbai Can Dance Saala", accus-

ing him of demanding "favours" from her. The

director has refuted the claim, terming it as a

"publicity stunt". At the music launch of

"Mumbai Can Dance Saala" here, Rakhi's

friend Manisha came forward and slapped

Sharma. Rakhi, who is part of the movie

and was also present at the event, came

out in support of her friend, saying:

"Yes, she is right, the director asked her for

favours to get a role in his fi lm." The director, however, rubbished the

claims and called it a publicity stunt. “Every now and then, aspiring

actresses use these type of cheap stunts to get publicity.

ctress Bipasha Basu may

have done bold scenes in

her previous releases,

but she feels her forthcoming

movie "Alone" is her boldest

movie so far. In "Alone", directed

by Bhushan Patel, the Bengali

beauty has shed all her inhibi-

tions to shoot some passionate

and steamy scenes with her co-

star Karan Singh Grover. "It is

going to be my boldest film that

I have ever done till now,"

Bipasha, who has shown her

bold side in films like "Jism",

"Raaz", "Raaz 3D" among oth-

ers, said. "It's a passionate love story. It is definitely a

horror genre and will scare you, but it revolves around

a love story... a love story between a man, a woman and

a ghost," she added. Further, Bipasha said that the

audience would love the film as "they will see lots of

passion, lots of love in it." Off late, Bipasha has been

doing horror films. When asked if she isn't afraid of get-

ting typecast, she said: "This business is about type-

cast. You guys and everybody wants to typecast. When

you talk about biggest actors like Salman Khan or

Akshay Kumar... everybody seems to be doing their

same kind of film. So everyone is typecast." "It's okay to

be stereotype here (in Bollywood). If audiences want to

see you that way, definitely you can't take that away

from them. So you have to give them what they want to

see.

Urea being supplied to farmers

Satyarthi pitches legislationagainst child labour

Nobel Peace prize winner Kailash

Satyarthi, who returned to India after

receiving the prize in Oslo, Norway,

has pitched for the passage of the

pending legislation against child

labour, saying that history won't for-

give the legislators if the bill does not

get passed.

"I want to make an earnest appeal

to all the parliamentarians, and also

to other leaders to facilitate the pas-

sage of the key legislation failing which history and children of India

won't forgive them," Satyarthi said.

He said that he's a friend of the chil-

dren. No one should see them as

pitiable subjects or charity. He said

people often relate childish behaviour

to stupidity or foolishness. This needs

to change. “I want to level the playing

field where I can learn from children.I can learn transparency from chil-

dren. They're innocent and straight-

forward”, he said. Satyarthi said the

prize is an honour to all those chil-

dren who are still suffering in slavery,

bonded labour and trafficking. He

said people can protect children from

exploitation. Consumers can boycott

goods and services that involve chil-

dren in manufacturing products.

Don't accept hospitality from eateries

and by from shops employing chil-

dren.

Summon the courage to tell them

that you refuse to take their services

because they employ children, which

is a crime. This will put psychological

pressure on the industries too.

Demand a guarantee from shops youvisit that they don't employ children.

Use social media to prevent exploita-

tion, Satyarthi said. Asked how he

would spend the prize money,

Satyarthi said that he had previously

"never seen" that much money in his

life, quickly adding that he would

spend "every single

penny" for the cause of

children in India and

globally. "I have never

seen or touched that

amount of money in

my life before. But I

can assure you that

every single penny

will go to the cause of

children in my country

and globally.

The money won'teven go to my own NGO,"

he said. Satyarthi's NGO

Bachpan Bachao Andolan

prides itself on liberating over

80,000 children from bonded

labour in factories and workshops

across India.

rea is being supplied to farmers as per

their demand. More urea has been dis-

tributed by cooperative societies in 33 such

districts till December 8 this year as com-

pared to last year. In state’s districts, one lakh

19 thousand MT urea has been made avail-

able only during December 1 to 8. Meanwhile

56 thousand MT urea of the same period is in

transit. The state is getting 5 rakes of urea

daily since November 11, 2014. This year,

total 6 lakh 48 thousand MT urea has been

made available to the state from October 1 to

December 8 including transit. This is almost

equal to last year’s quantity.

It is noteworthy that the state govern-

ment is making every possible effort to make

urea available to farmers. CM Shivraj Singh

Chauhan had met Union Minister of

Chemicals and Fertilisers on September 14

and 20 and December 2, 2014 and urged for

supply of urea as per demand. CM Chauhan

has undertaken efforts to tighten up urea

supply arrangements at the state level also.

In this context, during a video-conferencing

on December 5, he directed commissioners

and collectors to keep a constant vigil over

distribution of urea from private and coopera-

tive sectors. In the same video-conference, collectors

were authorised to fix ratio of urea allocation

to private and cooperative sectors as 75:25 as

per demand instead of present 50:50 ratio. In

the conference, CM Chauhan had directed to

undertake joint surprise inspections of pri-

vate and cooperative sales centres by

Revenue and Farmers Welfare and

 Agricul ture Development departments to

curb blackmarketing of urea and other fer-

tilisers. Besides all, DAP and Complex fer-

tilisers have also been supplied more this

year than the last year. So far this year, 2

lakh 89 thousand MT DAP has been distrib-

uted as compared to 2 lakh 65 thousand MT.

This year, 82 thousand MT Complex fertiliser

has been distributed as compared to 54 thou-

sand MT last year. It may also be mentioned

here that last year sowing was undertaken in

100 lakh hectare area as on this day while

sowing operations have been undertaken in

84 lakh 90 thousand hectares this year.
