We all grow spiritually when we share! Thanks for participating in the
Dear Parishioners, “A time will come for singing when all the tears
are shed, When sorrows changes are broken
and broken hearts will mend.”
These lyrics are part of an Advent hymn composed long ago by the St. Louis Jesuits and contained on their less known album, “Gentle Night.” Perhaps as we begin the holy season of Advent today we consider these words for reflection and as part of our personal prayer and parish prayer.
As many of you know, Mrs. Patricia Nicolosi, our parish secretary, died unexpectedly on Tuesday,
November 20th. Her funeral Mass this past Wednesday was attended by hundreds of family members, friends, neighbors and parishioners who mourned her death and I thank Bishop Chappetto for being the main celebrant and homilist.
Pat worked in the parish for over thirty years beginning with respite care and later on as secretary in the
Human Concerns Office including the St. Vincent DePaul Society. About seven years ago Pat became parish receptionist and without a doubt she became known and loved by many people. Her genuine care and concern for others came through with every phone call she answered, every door she opened, every bulletin she worked on and every schedule she prepared particularly for parish events and visitations to the homebound.
Her professional way of doing things was always sprinkled with her own personal touch whether it was
Halloween or Valentine Day candy in a jar at her desk for everyone to enjoy or distributing hand crafted butterflies to brighten the day and to lift the spirits of the elderly and infirmed throughout the year.
Following her death, I spoke on Thanksgiving morning how Pat was the face of the parish and the face of
Jesus- listening, supporting, caring and praying. Her thoughtfulness, kindness and generosity may have seemed small and insignificant to some, but to countless others she made a world of difference. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why her unexpected death has left many of us saddened.
“A time will come for singing, a hymn by hearts foretold That kings have sought for ages and treasured more than gold. Its lyrics turn to silver when sung in harmony. The Lord of Love will teach us to sing its melody.” As Advent unfolds let us reflect more on these closing lyrics as we journey anew in another Year of
Grace and sing for the soul of our dear friend, Pat Nicolosi, who like that of a beautiful butterfly will be made new in the hope and life of the resurrection.
May she rest in peace. Amen.

At the end of National Vocations Awareness Week, the Our Lady of the Snows Vocations Committee continues to invite parishioners to receive our statue of the Good Shepherd into their homes! Bringing home the Good Shepherd for a week is an opportunity to pray each day together as a family to the Lord, asking Him to help men and women respond to vocations to the Priesthood, Diaconate, and other Religious or Lay Orders. The statue is presented at Sunday Mass, and a folder containing prayer materials, children's activities, and information about vocations is included. Individuals are welcome to participate. Also, one of our parish Priests or Deacons will be available to come and offer a house blessing at a convenient time during the week!

events of Charlottesville, Virginia just one year ago,
we have seen the effect and impact that racism has
had on our society. The Bishops of the United States
have formed a committee to focus and address the sin
of racism. In our own diocese Bishop DiMarzio
has formed a commission on Racism and Social
Justice. The goal of this commission is to deal with
the social and religious problems that racism in all of
its forms present to us. The commission would like to
hear from all the faithful of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
A listening session is planned for this Saturday,
December 8th beginning at 11:00 AM at Holy Family
Parish located at 175-20 74th Avenue, Flushing.

ADVENT WREATH BLESSING AND PRAYERS The weekly prayers are to be used on each Advent Sunday as a new candle is lit to signify the coming of the Lord. Half way through the season we light the rose candle on the Third Sunday of Advent: Gaudete Sunday.
THIRD SUNDAY
Father, we celebrate with joy the coming of your Son, for he
has come in our past. We celebrate with hope the coming of
your Son, for he will come again. We celebrate with peace the
coming of your Son, for he is now in our midst. Help us to
uncover and recognize his presence to men and women who
touch our lives. Hatred and selfishness blind our eyes and keep
us from bringing him forth. Free us now from all that stands in
his way, that with a love for each other made genuine and real
we might quicken his coming in our midst. Amen.
SECOND SUNDAY
Father, do not turn from us, and do not avoid us now that
we are looking for words to pray to you. If we call you
God, and speak your name, it is because you first pierced
the silence and called us sons and daughters. You have
given us your word that you would not be far from us
whenever we turn to you. And so we cast aside our
doubts and our fears and place our trust in your promise
to us. Father, make us receptive and open as you speak to
us; may we receive the blessing of your peace as we
prepare for the coming of your Son. Amen.
FOURTH SUNDAY
Father, we are struck with wonder at the trust you have put
in us. The work which your Son began by his coming in now
put into our hands to complete. He longs to come again,
but his time is not ripe, we must bring him forth into the
world that is pleasing to him. Until that time, known only to
you, when the heavens will open and we see him once
more, we raise our eyes to you and ask your blessing while
we set our hands to the task you have given us. Amen.
FIRST SUNDAY
Father, the day of our salvation draws near; your light grows
steadily around us to pierce the darkness of our minds and
open us to the promise of life. Your Son, Jesus Christ, comes
in our midst in Spirit where once he came in flesh. Open our
eyes that we may see his presence and our ears that we
may hear his call in all the events that fill our lives today.
Give us the courage to respond to him; to carry on the work
of service which he has sent us to accomplish. Give birth to
your Son in our lives that through us he may give life to the
world. Amen.
A BLESSING
Father in you belong the seasons and the
ages for you are the beginning and the end of
all things. As our world enters the darkness
of winter we kindle the fire to remind us that
your Son is our light. Bless us, we pray, with
the light and warmth of this holy season. We
ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
