We, Tennesseans

Page 2: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

We, Tennesseans“we” because I consider myself at least 1/8th Tennessean now :)

Page 3: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

Tennessee

Page 4: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

can you guess where is it?

Page 5: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

don’t worry, I couldn’t either

Page 6: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

a.k.a“Volunteer State”

got this nickname from the war of 1812 against britain, big number of volunteers

Page 7: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

a.k.a“best state”

some people disagree, but they’re just wrong

some people disagree, they’re wrong

I was in Oak Ridge

Page 10: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

Oak Ridge was a secret city built during WWII to make components for the atomic bombs.

cool story :)

secret city, made components for the atomic bombs. legacy: one of the biggest labs in the usa

Page 11: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

so...what are you famous for?

Page 12: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)
Page 13: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

most sold whisky in the world... and made in a “dry county”

Page 14: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

moonshine!

it’s a popular, home made, illegal kind of spirit.

it was even more popular when selling alcohol was illegal in the US

Page 15: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

that’s kinda how they make moonshine

Page 16: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

that’s cool... but what do you do?

Page 17: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

church!

TN is on the “bible belt,” where most of the strong christians are.

most people are christian and go to church regularly, and some take it *very* seriously.

Page 18: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

pets!

we treat them like part of the family. really.

this was one of my baby brothers :)

Page 19: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

outdoor stuff!

we got the “smokies,” one of the biggest parks in the US

Page 20: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

hiking in the smokies :)

Page 21: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

and we got no real beaches, but we have some pretty lakes

Page 22: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)
Page 23: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

and we get to play in the snow a few times in the winter :)

but (thankfully!) not nearly as much as those wisconsin folks

Page 24: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

we go clubbing too

Page 25: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

and we do some contra-dancing... it’s not that popular, but it’s so-much-fun

Page 26: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

we got country music, lots of it.

Dolly Parton is a huge country star. famous for her music, acting, and... something else

Page 27: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

I’ll let you guys guess what

Page 28: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

we also have bluegrass, very traditional and one of the coolest music genres I’ve heard.

no percussion, no brass, just strings. and the fiddle. oh the fiddle.

Page 29: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

and all this music stuff has its high point at bonnaroo, one of the biggest music festivals in the US

Page 30: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

it’s HUGE! in a farm, in a very very hot and humid area, everybody camping

Page 31: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

100k+ people

Page 32: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

4 days

Page 33: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

and we do football!

Page 34: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

GO VOLS!

Page 35: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

in case you couldn’t guess, our color is orange

Page 36: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

fun!and what about eating?

Page 37: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

boy...

Page 38: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

do we eat!

Page 39: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

biscuits and gravy! yummy!

Page 40: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

grits... don’t really taste like anything to me. you can put cheese and butter to make it salty, or jam to make it sweet.

good, not my favorite.

Page 41: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

good lord! I’d trade my brother for a sweet potato casserole

Page 42: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

hot dogs!

they’re pretty different from ours. the hot dog itself looks more like the sausages we have here, and they’re grilled. also usually there isn’t much besides the bun and the hot dog.

Page 43: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

sweetened iced tea!

I think it’s the number one thing tennesseans miss when they leave the south lol

Page 44: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

and pink lemonade!

it was just weird first time I saw it, but tastes pretty good. sweeter than regular lemonade.

Page 45: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

and corn dogs!

it’s like a deep fried hot dog made with a corn based flour... they’re good!

talking about deep frying... well, we like deep frying...

Page 46: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

we like it so much that we deep fry oreos lol

Page 47: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

and as a good Tennessean would say,

Page 48: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

thank y’all for coming!

Page 49: We, Tennesseans (annotated version)

take care,sweethearts!
