I was in Oak Ridge

Oak Ridge was a secret city built during WWII to make components for the atomic bombs.

so...what are you famous for?

most sold whisky in the world... and made in a “dry county”

moonshine!

it’s a popular, home made, illegal kind of spirit.

it was even more popular when selling alcohol was illegal in the US

that’s kinda how they make moonshine

that’s cool... but what do you do?

church!

TN is on the “bible belt,” where most of the strong christians are.

most people are christian and go to church regularly, and some take it *very* seriously.

pets!

we treat them like part of the family. really.

this was one of my baby brothers :)

outdoor stuff!

we got the “smokies,” one of the biggest parks in the US

hiking in the smokies :)

and we got no real beaches, but we have some pretty lakes

and we get to play in the snow a few times in the winter :)

but (thankfully!) not nearly as much as those wisconsin folks

we go clubbing too

and we do some contra-dancing... it’s not that popular, but it’s so-much-fun

we got country music, lots of it.

Dolly Parton is a huge country star. famous for her music, acting, and... something else

I’ll let you guys guess what

we also have bluegrass, very traditional and one of the coolest music genres I’ve heard.

no percussion, no brass, just strings. and the fiddle. oh the fiddle.

and all this music stuff has its high point at bonnaroo, one of the biggest music festivals in the US

it’s HUGE! in a farm, in a very very hot and humid area, everybody camping

biscuits and gravy! yummy!

grits... don’t really taste like anything to me. you can put cheese and butter to make it salty, or jam to make it sweet.

good, not my favorite.

good lord! I’d trade my brother for a sweet potato casserole

hot dogs!

they’re pretty different from ours. the hot dog itself looks more like the sausages we have here, and they’re grilled. also usually there isn’t much besides the bun and the hot dog.

sweetened iced tea!

I think it’s the number one thing tennesseans miss when they leave the south lol

and pink lemonade!

it was just weird first time I saw it, but tastes pretty good. sweeter than regular lemonade.

and corn dogs!

it’s like a deep fried hot dog made with a corn based flour... they’re good!

talking about deep frying... well, we like deep frying...

we like it so much that we deep fry oreos lol

and as a good Tennessean would say,
