We started the year studying The Romans. This meant a visit to Dorchester to see the museum and the Roman Town House.

Then we studied the Anglo-Saxons and learned about how much they enjoyed stories. We heard the story of Beowulf and Grendel. In Design Technology we made our own models of Grendel.

We have learned lots of things in science.

We thought about which materials would be the most absorbent.

We brought our bikes into school to investigate how important friction is.

We made boats to investigate which would be the best material for a sail. We had to decide which things to keep the same to make our test fair.

We learned about Rocks and Soils and what they can be used for. We walked to Pymore to see how many uses for Rocks and Soils we could find.

We investigated what happened to our shadow over the course of a day. The hardest part was waiting for a sunny day so that we could see our shadows!

We investigated plants and leaves. Mrs Haylock chopped the leaves off of one of her plants. It didn’t grow as well as the ones that had leaves! We found that cress didn’t grow too well if it was too hot. And runner beans need just the right amount of water to grow properly.

We have learned a lot of things in RE this year. In December we were lucky enough to be invited to Chideock Church where the ladies helped us make Christingles and gave us a delicious tea.

In the spring term we studied sustainable transport and how sculpture improves the environment. We walked in to town to look at some sculpture and to conduct a traffic survey.

In December we walked down to the United Church to visit the Christmas Tree Festival. The trees were great inspiration for some shape poems.

In May we walked down to town to visit the community pond. This was to gain inspiration for our own school pond. On the way back we visited the museum and had great fun dressing up!

In June it was the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. We learned about her life and her family and then made models of Buckingham Palace.When we returned to school after half term it was time to learn about the Olympics and our class Olympic value – Respect.

One of the most exciting things we have done this year is dance. We danced to Tiger Feet for the Jubilee and to the Pushbike Song for the Dance Festival.

We will transfer plants and animals from the old pond to the new pond........

We will learn how to look after our teeth.......

We will find out about healthy eating...

We will harvest and cook our potatoes...

We will write and perform a play.....
