Ash Wednesday As a school we marked the beginning of Lent with mass. Fr Bernard and Deacon Norman led us in prayer and reflecon on the importance of Ash Wednesday. All of the children received ashes. We pray that we have the strength to merciful and forgive each other when a problem impacts on our relaonships. Thoughts for Lent Somemes children—and even adults— focus too much on ‘giving something up’ for Lent, and not on the fact that if we have given something up, it should be so that we have more ‘space’ for God in our hearts. For example, food or fame or anything else are not bad things in themselves, as all good things come from God. However, if we start to treat those things as if they are more important than God they become sinful for us. Safe use of the Internet and Social Media We ask that parents are vigilant regarding their child’s use of social media. This week we have had Safer Internet Day. The children were reminded about keeping safe while they are online. Please ensure your child only uses posive, appropriate and acceptable language when they are messaging other children. Our school has strong moral values and we expect our children to uphold these values even when they are out of school and online. There are two new informaon leaflets on our website. St Leonard’s sees stars!

The Life Centre brought a mobile

Planetarium to school on Thursday. The

children were able to learn more about the

planets, stars and constellaons. As a school

we try to provide a range of experiences

that excite and movate the children to

learn more about the world they live in. This

Ash Wednesday

As a school we marked the beginning of Lent

with mass. Fr Bernard and Deacon Norman

led us in prayer and reflecon on the

children received ashes. It was great to see

so many parents and parishioners there too.

May we use Lent to reflect on our lives and

our relaonships. We pray that we have the

strength to merciful and forgive each other

when a problem impacts on our

relaonships.

Thoughts for Lent

Somemes children—and even adults—

focus too much on ‘giving something up’

for Lent, and not on the fact that if we

have given something up, it should be so

that we have more ‘space’ for God in our

hearts. For example, food or fame or

anything else are not bad things in

themselves, as all good things come from

God. However, if we start to treat those

things as if they are more important than

God they become sinful for us.

Safe use of the Internet and Social Media

regarding their child’s use of social

media. This week we have had Safer

Internet Day. The children were

values and we expect our children to

awarded their RED TED.

Cash for Clothes

The Friends of St

Leonard’s are collecng

unwanted clothes. This

is a great opportunity to

spring clean , clear out the wardrobes and

cupboards and raise some cash for our school

funds.

Manzini Project

Miss Whi(aker would like to thank Molly

Swansbury for her donaon to the Manzini Project.

Molly has been saving pennies and 5 pence pieces.

Every li(le counts and makes a huge difference to

the lives of the young people in Swaziland.

We raised £83 and all the money from today’s non

uniform day will go to the project too. Thank you

for your generosity.

Coming up….

4th March is World Book day. Children can come into school dressed as

their favourite book character. Please use your imaginaons as there will

be a prize for the most original ouPit. We will be having a special World

Book day lunch. Children on packed lunches can pay £1.90 before 1st

March if they wish to parcipate.

Texts from School

We are changing the provider that we use to

send text and email messages home to

parents. This will take place over the next

couple of weeks. Please do not use the

number you have saved to text school as

this inbox will be disabled after half

term. The new number to text in on

is 07860005167. If your message is urgent

you should always ring school as there is no

alert to let us know when a text has arrived.

We are also introducing a School App which will keep you all updated with

school information, news and calendar events. If you have a smartphone

(Android or iPhone) you can download OurSchoolsApp from Google Play

Android or the Apple Store for FREE. The new app is available for anyone

with a smartphone to download so grandparents will also be able to keep

up to date with school events.

We are always eager to develop our communication with parents, we

hope that having the APP will go some way to ensuring parents receive all

school related information in a speedy way. Thank you to Mrs Jones for her

help in acquiring the APP and sorting out the information to go on it. Mrs

Jennings and Mrs Jones work hard in the office to ensure the admin side of

school works efficiently.

What a busy Week!

The police were in school on Monday to remind the children

about key road safety messages.

Please remember only use the foot path when entering the

school grounds. Parents should not bring their cars in to the

school grounds. The police have said they do not have any jurisdicon

when it comes to visitors and parents using the school carpark etc. so it up

to parents to make sure they follow the schools recommendaon of not

bringing their cars down the drive. There simply isn’t the room. This ma(er

will be brought up at the next Governing body meeng.

Safeguarding

Mrs Jones, Miss McViKe and Mrs Doherty have a(ended Safeguarding

Refresher Training. Miss Scothern has a(ended Designated Person

Training.

Supporng Assessment

All teachers have a(ended courses run by the Local Authority on the new

assessment procedures. The exemplar materials produced by the DFE show

what is expected of Yr6 children in maths and wring. They are certainly

very challenging.

As always we ask that the children give their best every minute they are in

school. By the end of the year we need to see the majority of children

reaching the expected standard for their year group. With a growth mind-

set and a posive aKtude to learning the children can do it!
