Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation manages the fundraising and events that, in addition to generating income, create a philanthropic culture in support of Milford Regional and the 20-plus towns it serves.

We strive to make a difference in the health of our community.

What strikes us about the incredible support the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation receives is how the spirit of philanthropy is shared by so many community residents, local business owners and organizations, and members of our workforce throughout and across the organization. The cumulative impact of your deep-rooted commitment to being actively involved is very powerful!

Once again, the organizers of our fundraising events throughout the year outdid themselves providing opportunities to connect with old friends and new while supporting the Medical Center.

All told, $3,396,418 was raised this year in support of specifi c programs and our Annual Fund, and there is no possible way to quantify the value of the time, talents and expertise our board members, committee members, and other volunteers dedicate so selfl essly. Every single supporter makes a difference, and together, you are leading the way toward Milford Regional’s bright and successful future. We can’t thank you enough!

The Mélange Gala and Live Auction – Celebrate

the Circus! – held at the Milford Youth Center

in November raised an unprecedented

$1,000,000. Kevin and Leslie Lobisser

graciously chaired the monumental event and

welcomed presenting sponsor, Rockland

Trust Charitable Foundation, in support

of the fourth floor renovations at Milford Regional.

The Milford Regional 30th annual Golf Classic

held in August at the Franklin Country Club raised

more than $200,000 to support renovations to

our fourth floor, a space more than 50 years old.

The MyFM 101.3 Radiothon celebrated its 12th

year at the Classic and raised over $115,000, all

of which is dedicated to the Oliva Fund for Cancer

Care. Local business owner Tony Khoury hosted

two sold-out fundraising events and presented

the Oliva Fund with proceeds totaling $63,000 at

the Radiothon.

While so many community hospitals have joined larger healthcare systems to expand services and stay fi nancially sound, we’ve taken a different approach – one that has allowed us to remain independent while providing the high-quality services and programs that our community members deserve. Your willingness to always respond when needs arise has made Milford Regional what it is today.

This past year marked the 10th anniversary of the Cancer Center at Milford Regional Medical Center, a joint initiative of our Medical Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Our partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital remains strong, and neurosurgery specialists from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and vascular surgery specialists from UMass Memorial Medical Center now see patients right here in Milford. These academic medical center partnerships complement the remarkable talent and expertise of Milford Regional’s core group of exceptional clinical and support staff.

As you can see from these highlights of the Medical Center’s recent activities, our future is bright. We couldn’t do it without you! Julie Burgey Kehoe was born at Milford Regional Medical Center. Her

husband Mike moved to the area as a child and recalls numerous visits

to the Emergency Department to tend to the inevitable injuries of an

active young boy.

Julie and Mike are “giving back to the place and people within it that have done so much for them and many members of their families.” The Kehoes serve as Corporators at Milford Regional, and Julie is a

member of the Corporator Council. They’re also long-time supporters

of Foundation events such as the Tree of Life Celebration and Mélange

Gala, and are active and engaged in a variety of activities within the local

community. Julie is a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices

Commonwealth Real Estate in Milford. Mike is a police officer with the

Milford Police Department and a film actor with roles in movies such as

“Patriots Day” and “Equalizer 2.”

“Milford Regional is such a valuable asset to the community. What would

we do without it?” says Julie. “I see droves of people coming to the

area in my real estate role, and choosing a home with access to quality

healthcare is just as important as choosing a location with a good school

system.”

Prior to becoming a police officer, Mike worked on an ambulance and

says, “I saw first-hand how Milford Regional’s care and compassion

affects people in our local community. It’s a tremendous resource.”

Julie and Mike exemplify a remarkable capacity for empathy – for

recognizing that every member of the community is connected by

common, often difficult, experiences. Recalling a personal encounter

in which the kind act of a Medical Center employee left an indelible

impression, Julie says, “People are seldom at the hospital for a joyous

occasion. The high level of care and genuine compassion of everyone

we’ve encountered are here when people need it most.”

Patrick R. McSweeney, MD, accepted the position

of president of Milford Regional Physician Group

(MRPG) last fall, a role in which he is committed

to helping physicians and staff “work smarter, not

harder.” “We have outstanding care here,” he says.

“We do want to improve access and make sure

people can see the providers they need as soon as

they need them.”

Physician burnout is an area of particular concern

in today’s healthcare environment. “Provider and

staff well-being is a priority,” Dr. McSweeney says.

“We’re focused on what we can do to support our physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners to allow them to continue to take excellent care of our patients.”He has already begun investigating and

implementing innovative solutions to better

manage the workload for caregivers in high-stress

positions. The new medical scribe role, in which

trained individuals document key information in

patients’ electronic medical records during their

visits – which relieves some of the documentation

burden on physicians – is one such initiative.

Access to primary care is another priority. “With

fewer primary care physicians in the market, we

need to grow and increase the advanced practice

clinician workforce to ensure access for every

member of the community,” Dr. McSweeney

says. Recruiting additional nurse practitioners

and physician assistants is part of the strategy to

address the issue. In fact, five nurse practitioners

have been hired in recent months.

No stranger to the Milford Regional community,

Dr. McSweeney moved to Medway at the age

of two and currently resides there with his wife

Kathy and their family. In addition to caring

for thousands of patients at Family Medicine

Associates in Medway, this 19-year veteran

of MRPG has also served as Medical Director,

Hospital Board Trustee, and a member of the

Physician Leadership Group.

“I discussed this new role with my wife and 19-

year old daughter, and was encouraged by leaders

at the Medical Group,” Dr. McSweeney says of

his decision to become president of MRPG. “I

was caring for 3,000 patients in my practice and

realized I could be helping 70,000. It was time

to do something to impact a larger group. I care

about the community.”

Meet the couple that chaired the most successful Milford Regional

Healthcare Foundation Mélange Gala and Live Auction ever – Kevin and

Leslie Lobisser. As chairs of the 2018 event, they say they used every

spare minute, called everyone they knew, and had a lot of help from

the Foundation’s army of supporters in raising more than $1 million!

Stepping up to the plate again, they also provided the perfect venue for

the 2019 event. “Our company purchased the Milford Middle School

East building to develop age-restricted apartments,” says Kevin. “It was

unoccupied for several years, so when we learned the Foundation needed

a venue for the 15th annual Mélange Gala and Live Auction – Glitz &

Graffiti, we got it up and running again.”

The Lobissers co-own Lobisser & Ferreira Construction Corp. with Joe

and Suzette Ferreira, who co-hosted the most recent Gala. They are firm

believers that supporting the community is “the right thing to do.” Kevin

says, “We’ve been very involved in the expansion of Milford Regional’s

services, and in the process became more involved in every aspect of

making things better.” Leslie adds, “Having community-based, high-

quality healthcare is vital to area residents, particularly as the population

continues to age.”

“If everyone can contribute, there’s no way we can fail.”Kevin and Leslie feel they have a lot in common with Milford Regional

Medical Center and the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation. “We’re

passionate about the community doing well,” Kevin says. “Our mission

and values are the same. When people don’t have good health, they don’t

have anything. We want our friends, family, and neighbors to have state-

of-the art medical care and facilities when they need them, and we’ll do

anything it takes to keep them here.”

Of their ongoing support of Milford Regional, they explain, “We don’t sit

around and wait for someone to ask. We just raise our hands, offer to

help, and do our best to deliver on everything we do.”

On Saturday, November 2, 2019 the doors to Milford Middle School East

were graciously opened once again to provide the perfect backdrop for

a truly dramatic collision of sophisticated décor and graffiti-inspired art

show in the form of the 15th annual Mélange Gala and Live Auction – Glitz

& Graffiti. Nearly 400 guests were welcomed by hosts Kevin and Leslie

Lobisser and Joe and Suzette Ferreira of Lobisser & Ferreira Construction

Corp. to honor former educator, principal, and Milford school district

superintendent, Tom Davoren and his family.

Surrounded by daring mural-style artwork created by artist Victor Chaves

and his team, guests enjoyed the intrigue of performance artist Jessica

“JessGo” Gorlicky and lively musical entertainment of Clockwork New

England. A highly-spirited and vivacious live auction led by Paul Zekos of

The Zekos Group inspired captivated and enthusiastic guests to produce

the highest live auction to-date.

Embraced by our local donor community, the event raised close to

$800,000 in support of the Medical Center and continues to be recognized

as the premier fundraising event in our region. We are incredibly thankful

for the generous support of the hosts, guests, Milford Regional Medical

Center Board of Trustees, Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation Board of
