It’s all about finding that perfect feel. The one that helps give your content a lift, whether we’re talking about a magazine or direct mail, offers or articles, images or text.

With Holmen VIEW you get a sophisticated challenger with a silky surface and high gloss, excellent print quality and good readability. We love VIEW! And you and your readers will too.

Reduce the basis weight – keep the feelHolmen VIEW is an uncoated paper, LWU (Light Weight Uncoated) made from fresh fibre. The paper has high

bulk, which means that you can reduce the basis weight compared with LWC and SC papers, without losing the feel-ing. The lower basis weights offer you new opportunities – either in the form of pure cost savings on both paper and postage, or in your ability to increase the format, thickness or print run for the same price.

Keep your thickness and lose weight

Our paper is made from fresh fibre, which gives high bulk and stiffness. This enables you to use a lower basis weight in grams per square metre while still retaining the overall thick-ness of your printed material.

You keep the feel and the volume of your printed material, but you can cut down on the total amount of paper you need to buy.

The end product is thus just as thick but lighter. This gives you a lower distribution cost per copy. All this contributes to cost savings for your company. You can reap the profits directly, or invest what you save in more frequent direct mail or expand-ing your magazines.

We supply Europe with recyclable paper

Fresh fibre is fibre that is used for the first time, but when the paper is collected and recycled it then becomes recovered fibre. Paper can be recycled up to seven times, after which the recovered fibre becomes too short and weak and breaks down. The paper then won’t hold together.

So in order for the recovered paper system to work, it needs to be topped up with new fresh fibre sourced from sustainably managed forests – usually in the Nordic countries, which have plenty of forest and manufacture pulp, paper and consumer board primarily from fresh fibre.

Our fresh fibre plays a vital role in the European paper ecocycle. This is because the system has to be topped up with fresh fibre in order to function.

There are certain things you can do to ensure the same print quality every time you run Holmen VIEW through the press during the production process. This applies at all stages, from prepress and colour management to setting up the press. Follow our tips and recommendations to help minimise any unnecessary costs of ink consumption.

Prepress and press settings Gravure• Screen ruling 160 lpi.• Total dot area 280–340%.

Choose the right profile for the paper grade. Use ICC profiles from ECI – European Color Initiative. We recommend ECI_PSR_SC_Plus V2 or PSRgravureMF.icc.

Heatset• Use soft inks or inks suitable for

MF or SC paper.• Screen ruling 133 lpi or 150 lpi,

depending on print object.• Paper category 6 and TVI curve C.

ISO standard ISO12647-2:2013.• Total dot area 260–280%.• Max black 98%.

Choose the right profile for the paper grade. Use ICC profiles from ECI (European Color Initiative). We recommend PSO_MFC_Paper_eci.icc.

Colour deviation from original tones, colour-cast in neutral grey tones and perceived image quality all have to be con-sidered when choosing the most appropriate ICC profile. One single ICC profile cannot always handle all of these different aspects. The motif of the images to be printed also has a large impact on the final result. Generally images with skin tones and similar colour tones are sensitive and should be decisive when choosing ICC profile.

Choosing screen ruling Evaluations have been carried out to see the potential for different screen rulings, 133 lpi and 150 lpi. In general there is an increased risk that a higher screen ruling may give

a decreased print quality due to the higher dot gain. The half tone mottle may also become worse, especially in skin tones and similar. Holmen therefore suggests using the lower screen ruling.

To ensure the quality of the paper reels, and the runnability, it is important to handle the reel correctly. Here are a few recommendations for Holmen VIEW. More information can be found in the industry’s best practice guide OPHAL – “Optimised Paper Handling & Logistics”.

Handle your reels correctly

Calculating clamping forceFor Holmen VIEW, we recommend that the total clamping force in kN is calculated using a dynamic clamping factor of 1.2–1.5.

Remember not to place the contact pads near the edge of the reel.

The dynamic clamping factor is affected by:• Paper grade• Reel’s weight and dimensions• Friction between contact pad and

wrapping. Holmen recommends rubberised pads

• Wrapping and reel density• Condition of contact pads, replace

at regular intervals
