“I’m bored, Mom,” said Cody, looking out the window at the rain. “Why doesn’t spring come, so I can play outside?” “It’s not raining much now,” Cody’s mom said. “Let’s take a walk. Maybe we can find spring.” “Where do you look for spring?” asked Cody. He put on his slicker and pulled the hood over his head. “I always look around the corner at Mr. Miller’s house,” said his mom. Cody and his mom walked down the street. They stopped in front of Mr. Miller’s house. “Do you see the flowers under the front window?” asked his mom. “Where? I don’t see anything,” said Cody. “Little green leaves are pushing up through the brown leaves. They have white flowers. They are snowdrops. They bloom even before the snow is gone.” “Wow,” said Cody. “I couldn’t see them at first.” “You have to learn to find spring,” said his mom. “Where else do you look?” asked Cody. “I check the yellow house with the green fence,” his mom said.

Cody and his mom walked down the block to the yellow house. Cody ran ahead. He stopped at the fence and pointed. “I see reddish spikes in the snow.” “Those are tulips. Look how they melt the snow around them,” said his

mom. “Let’s look for spring at our house,” said Cody. He ran ahead again. “Look, Mom, our tree is full of birds.” “The robins love the

mushy crab apples in the spring,” said his mom.

“That gray bird isn’t a robin,” Cody said. “It has a funny beak, and its colors are different than a robin’s.” “It’s a grosbeak,” said his mom. “Let’s look at Grandpa’s bird book. He used to write in the dates when he saw the birds arrive each spring.” “I will write today’s date by the grosbeak picture,” said Cody. “Now my eyes can see spring.”

Seeing and Believing

Narrator: On the Sabbath, Jesus saw a man who had been blind since he was born. Jesus told the man what to do so he would be healed. The man did what Jesus told him to do.

Neighbor: Aren’t you the man who used to sit and beg?

Man: I was blind, but now I can see. The man named Jesus put mud on my eyes. He told me to wash in the pool of Siloam. I did, and now I can see.

Pharisee: I bet you were never blind.

Narrator: They brought in the man’s parents.

Neighbor: Is this your son?

Father: Yes, he is our son.

Pharisee: Was he blind?

Mother: Yes, always.

Neighbor: Then how can he see now?

Father: Ask him. He is old enough to speak for himself.

Neighbor: Tell us. How can you see now?

Man: I already told you. A man named Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. Then he told me to wash it off. I did, and now I can see. Do you want to be his disciples too?

Pharisee: If you follow that man, then you can’t worship with us.

Narrator: Jesus heard about what happened. He went to talk to the man he had healed.

Jesus: Do you believe in the One who comes from God?

Man: Who is this person?

Jesus: You have seen him and are speaking with him now.

Man: I believe in you, Jesus!

The blind man begins to see who Jesus is and believes in him. As we learn about Jesus, we grow to trust him and want to be like him. We grow in our belief that Jesus is God’s Son. We grow in our belief in the teachings of the Bible and the Church. At every Sunday Mass, we pray a creed to state what we believe about God.

Narrador: El sábado, Jesús vio al pasar a un ciego de nacimiento. Jesús le dijo al hombre lo que debía de hacer para ser curado. El hombre hizo lo que Jesús le dijo.

Vecino: ¿No eres tú el hombre que se sentaba a pedir limosna?

Hombre: Yo estaba ciego, pero ahora puedo ver. El hombre llamado Jesús puso lodo en mis ojos, luego me dijo que me lavara en la piscina de Siloé. Yo lo hice y ahora puedo ver.

Fariseo: Estoy seguro de que nunca estuviste ciego.

Narrador: Entonces trajeron a sus padres.

Vecino: ¿Es este tu hijo?

Padre: Sí, él es nuestro hijo.

Fariseo: ¿Era ciego?

Madre: Sí, siempre lo ha sido.

Vecino: Entonces, ¿cómo es que ahora ve?

Padre: Pregúntale a él, ya tiene edad su� ciente y responderá por sí mismo.

Vecino: Dinos, ¿cómo es que ahora ves?

Hombre: Ya te lo dije. Un hombre llamado Jesús hizo lodo y lo puso en mis ojos, luego me dijo que me lavara. Yo lo hice y ahora puedo ver. ¿Ustedes también quieren hacerse discípulos suyos?

Fariseo: Si sigues a ese hombre no puedes hacer oración con nosotros.

Narrador: Jesús escuchó lo que había sucedido y fue a hablar con el hombre que había curado.

Jesús: ¿Crees tú en el Hijo del hombre?

Hombre: ¿Quién es esta persona?

Jesús: Ya lo has visto; el que está hablando contigo, ése es.

Hombre: Creo, Señor.

“Estoy aburrido mamá”, dijo Cody mientras veía la lluvia por la ventana. “¿Por qué no llega la primavera para poder salir a jugar?”.

“No está lloviendo mucho”, dijo la mamá de Cody. “Vamos a dar un paseo, quizás podamos encontrar la primavera”.

“¿Dónde se busca la primavera?”, preguntó Cody mientras se ponía su chaqueta.

“Yo siempre busco a la vuelta de la esquina, en la casa del Sr. Miller”, dijo su mamá.

Cody y su mamá caminaron hasta la esquina y se detuvieron en la casa del Sr. Miller.

“¿Ves las � ores debajo de la ventana?”, preguntó su mamá.

“¿Dónde? No veo nada”, dijo Cody.“Esas hojitas verdes que

apenas salen de las hojas que están en el suelo. Tienen � ores blancas. Se llaman campanillas y � orean antes de que la nieve se haya ido”.

“No las podía ver”, dijo Cody. “Tienes que aprender a encontrar

la primavera”, dijo su mamá.“¿En dónde más podemos

buscar?”, preguntó Cody.“Yo siempre busco en la casa

amarilla con la barda verde”, dijo su mamá.

Cody y su mamá caminaron hasta la casa amarilla. Cody se adelantó,

se detuvo junto a la barda y apuntó con el dedo. “Veo picos rojos que salen de la nieve”.

“Son tulipanes. Mira cómo derriten la nieve a su alrededor”, dijo su mamá.

“Vamos a buscar a la primavera en nuestra casa”, dijo Cody mientras

corría de regreso. “Mira mamá, nuestro árbol está lleno de pajaritos”.

“A esos petirrojos les encanta comer manzanas en la

primavera”, dijo su mamá.“Ese pájaro gris no es un

petirrojo”, dijo Cody. “Tiene un pico raro, y sus colores son diferentes”.

“Es un picogrueso”, dijo su mamá. “Vamos a buscarlo en el libro de pájaros del abuelo. Él escribía las fechas en las que veía a los pájaros llegar en primavera todos los años”

“Voy a escribir la fecha de hoy junto a la foto del picogrueso”, dijo Cody. “Ahora mis ojos pueden ver la primavera”.
