Vice Presidents Sidebar
Spring is here as I now get home from riding the Metrolink train and the sun is still up! It’s freezing cold in the morning and blazing hot in the afternoon. I have been packing to move and I realized I am a pack rat. I had two boxes of old coax cable, 6 wire cutters, 14 plastic antenna insulators and many PL-256 coax connectors. Digging in the garage I found my electrical tool box with even more tools. In total, about 10 boxes of radio stuff plus a big box with my Elecraft K3 and Yaseu FT-817ND transceiver. My FT-60R handheld, I put in the desk for an emergency. Because my radio paraphernalia, as my wife calls it, is stuffed all over the house and garage. I really do not know what I have. As I Get older I am finding less time to build or assembly my radio "projects". I kept the 80 Meter transceiver kit and my solar battery box project. Now I understand why everyone likes an estate sale, lots of things you hope to use and it looks better in your garage then theirs! Read here, “Need new glasses”. Some items are hard to give up, but to move I needed to down size. I gave away my Chinese Rosewood furniture to OC Habitat for Humanity. Still crying about that one $$$. I am younger than some of our club members, so who knows how much radio stuff has accumulated around your house. Some of my donations were to radio friends who are active in kit building. I hope everyone is spring cleaning too. Let your unfinished radio projects go to a good home. It is time to dust off the radio hardware and make sure it still works or it may end up in Jim’s throw away pile.
