Butgivenayeartorecruitandrebuild,his2004-05squadposteda20-10recordmarking
thethird-largestturnaroundinNCAAhistoryandgivingRMUitsfirst20-winseasonsincethe1983-84season.PerhapsthebiggestpieceintherecentresurgenceoftheprogramcametotheforefrontthatseasonintheformofSugeiryMonsac.ItalsoearnedBuscagliatheBrendaReillyNECCoachoftheYearaward,hisfirstoftwosuchhonorsduringhistenureatRMU. Monsacwasahighly-toutedrecruitsoughtoutbynumerousBCSlevelprograms,butwhenshecommittedtoCoachSalandRMU,itmarkedaturnaround.MonsacwasnamedthePlayeroftheYearin2004-05andwasatwo-timeAll-NECselectionwhowouldscore1,177pointsandgrab689reboundsinjust67careergames. Inhisfourthseason,theteamthathadgone1-26theseasonbeforehisarrival,BuscagliahadputtheColonialsintotheNCAATournamentforthefirsttimeinteamhistoryafteravictoryintheNortheastConferenceChampionshipin2007.Thatsquadfinishedwithaprogram-record24victoriestojusteightlossesandcompletedtheprogram’sresurrection. CurrentjuniorArtemisSpanoumadehermarkin2010-11whenshebecamethefirstRobertMorrisplayertoearnNECRookieoftheYearhonors.Spanouandherteammatesposteda16-14markandledthesquadbacktotheNECsemifinals. Lastseason,theColonialswent18-14overalland11-6inleaguegames,returningfortheeighthtimeinthelastnineseasonstotheNortheastConferencesemifinals.TheteamearnedandinvitationandthetopseedinWomen’sBasketballInvitational.ItwasthefifthtimeinsixseasonsthatRobertMorriswasinvitedtoplayinanationaltournament. ForeightseasonspriortohisarrivalatManhattan,BuscagliawasheadcoachoftheUniversityatBuffalofrom1990-98andledtheBullstofive20-wincampaigns.InitsfirstseasoninDivisionIcompetitionin1991-92,Buffalofinishedwitha23-6record,whichwasthe10thhighestwinningpercentage(.793)inDivisionIthatseason.TheBullswonEastCoastConferenceregular season titles in 1992, 1993 and 1994, as well as tournament championships in 1992 and 1994.
