come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.

General Wave Offerings

Num 6:19-2019 The priest shall take the ram’s shoulder when it has been

boiled, and one unleavened cake out of the basket and one unleavened wafer, and shall put them on the hands of the Nazirite after he has shaved his dedicated hair. 20 Then the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the Lord. It is holy for the priest, together with the breast offered by waving and the thigh offered by lifting up; and afterward the Nazirite may drink wine.’

General Wave Offerings

Lev 14:2, 122 “This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing.

Now he shall be brought to the priest,

12 Then the priest shall take the one male lamb and bring it for a guilt offering, with the log of oil, and present them as a wave offering before the Lord.

Tabernacle Gifts

Ex 38:2424 All the gold that was used for the work, in all the work of the

sanctuary, even the gold of the wave offering, was 29 talents and 730 shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary.

Ex 38:2929 The bronze of the wave offering was 70 talents and 2,400

shekels.

Levites as a Wave Offering

Num 8:14-2214 “Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the sons

of Israel, and the Levites shall be Mine. 15 Then after that the Levites may go in to serve the tent of meeting. But you shall cleanse them and present them as a wave offering; 16 for they are wholly given to Me from among the sons of Israel. I have taken them for Myself instead of every first issue of the womb, the firstborn of all the sons of Israel. 17 For every firstborn among the sons of Israel is Mine, among the men and among the animals; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for Myself. 18 But I have taken the Levites instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel.

Levites as a Wave Offering

19 I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the sons of Israel, to perform the service of the sons of Israel at the tent of meeting and to make atonement on behalf of the sons of Israel, so that there will be no plague among the sons of Israel by their coming near to the sanctuary.” 20 Thus did Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the sons of Israel to the Levites; according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the sons of Israel did to them. 21 The Levites, too, purified themselves from sin and washed their clothes; and Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the Lord. Aaron also made atonement for them to cleanse them. 22 Then after that the Levites went in to perform their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron and before his sons; just as the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.

Wave Offering, during consecration of the priests.

Ex 29:129 “Now this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them

to minister as priests to Me: take one young bull and two rams without blemish,

Ex 29:26-2826 “Then you shall take the breast of Aaron’s ram of ordination,

and wave it as a wave offering before the Lord; and it shall be your portion. 27 You shall consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering which was waved and which was offered from the ram of ordination, from the one which was for Aaron and from the one which was for his sons. 28 It shall be for Aaron and his sons as their portion forever from the sons of Israel, for it is a heave offering; and it shall be a heave offering from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, even their heave offering to the Lord.

Summary of Wave Offerings

Wave offerings were used to set something/someone aside for use. (Tabernacle gifts, Levites, food for the priests)

Wave offerings were used as a part of the ceremony to restore things (end of nazarite vow, clensing of the leper)

The ram of ordination for the priests was a wave offering.

The Wavesheaf Offering Lev 23:9-149 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the sons of

Israel and say to them, ‘When you enter the land which I am going to give to you and reap its harvest, then you shall bring in the sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest. 11 He shall wave the sheaf before the Lord for you to be accepted; on the day after the sabbath the priest shall wave it. 12 Now on the day when you wave the sheaf, you shall offer a male lamb one year old without defect for a burnt offering to the Lord. 13 Its grain offering shall then be two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, an offering by fire to the Lord for a soothing aroma, with its drink offering, a fourth of a hin of wine. 14 Until this same day, until you have brought in the offering of your God, you shall eat neither bread nor roasted grain nor new growth. It is to be a perpetual statute throughout your

generations in all your dwelling places.

Temple Practice in Jesus Day

The Sadducees ran the temple but were killed off when the temple and Jerusalem were destroyed by the Arabs in the Roman Legion.

People assume wrongly that the Rabbinic traditions (Pharisee) were what occurred in the temple in Jesus day.

The following slides show what occurred in Jerusalem for the First of the Firstfruits being offered.

Ceremony in the 2nd Temple Period

The barley was selected from a field around Jerusalam.

Ceremony in the 2nd Temple Period

The barley was cut right after the weekly Sabbath.

When the barley was being cut the priests had a peculiar ceremony: They would make their way out to the field were the barley was bound gathering a crowd.

They would ask as they raised the sickle "Is the sun set", the crowd would reply "yes" "Is the sun set", "yes", "Is this a basket", "yes", "Is this a basket", "yes", "Shall I reap", "yes", "Shall I reap", "yes"

Timeline of Christ's Death & Resurrection

John 19:31-33 (selected on the eve of the first day)

31 Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him; 33 but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.

John 19:4242 Therefore because of the Jewish day of preparation, since the

tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

Timeline of Christ's Death & Resurection

John 20:1 (he arose after the Sabbath ended and was prepared through the night)

20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and saw the stone already taken away from the tomb.

Timeline of Christ's Death & Resurrection

John 20:14-1714 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus

standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” (which means, Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’”

The celebration of the First Fruit occurs in the morning!

Christ as the Wavesheaf

1 Cor 15:2020 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first

fruits of those who are asleep

Rom 8:2929 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to

become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

Page 24: Wavesheaf Offering. Introduction 1 Co 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just.

Christ as the Wavesheaf

Col 1:15-1815 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all

creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.

Romans 5:99 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we

shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

(Isrealites were made acceptable to God by the wavesheaf)

Christ as a Wave Offering

Heb 7:27-8:127 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up

sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 28 For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, made perfect forever. 8:1 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

(restoration, ordination, set a part for a purpose)

Celebrating the Risen Lord

1 Corinthians 11:26For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

1 Corinthians 15:17-20 17And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile;….20But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Christ is the Bread from Heaven. We proclaim His Death but we do it because HE ROSE AGAIN and SITS AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD AS OUR HIGH PRIEST! We celebrate that throughout the Days of Unleavened Bread.

But the Priest is the one who presents the offering before God. The people shall recognize the offering before they may partake of the harvest. John 15:1-8

3 days and 3 nights

Jesus said on many occasions that he would be raised up in 3 days and 3 nights before it happened.

Moses asked Pharaoh numerous times to let his people go for 3 days into the wilderness to praise God.

Israel went 3 days and 3 nights and then at the start of the night God selected Israel out and through the night he sifted out the Egyptians and Israel was presented as freed from there enemy in the morning.

Ties With Pentecost

James 1:1818 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of

truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

1 Cor 15:22-2322 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made

alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming,

Ties with PentecostLev 23:15-17,21

15 ‘You shall also count for yourselves from the day after the sabbath, from the day when you brought in the sheaf of the wave offering; there shall be seven complete sabbaths. 16 You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh sabbath; then you shall present a new grain offering to the Lord. 17 You shall bring in from your dwelling places two loaves of bread for a wave offering, made of two-tenths of an ephah; they shall be of a fine flour, baked with leaven as first fruits to the Lord.

...

21 On this same day you shall make a proclamation as well; you are to have a holy convocation. You shall do no laborious work. It is to be a perpetual statute in all your dwelling places throughout your generations.

Exodus 19 Pentecost

And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. 5Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

Page 32: Wavesheaf Offering. Introduction 1 Co 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just.

Revelation 1:4-6

Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, 5and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Wave offering to set aside priests, reconcile and to have things used for a holy purpose.

Christ is the firstfruits and we are the firstfruits harvest – Christ’s harvest of kings and priests to God.

Page 33: Wavesheaf Offering. Introduction 1 Co 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just.

The presentation of the wave offering for the firstfruits harvest

must start with the first of the harvest being presented to God –

It must start with Jesus!

The law was a shadow for what was to be done in Christ!
