Covid – 19 Update

The Department has made some adjustments to what can operate in schools. I will outline these below:

☼ We will continue with the early departure of K-2 students and their siblings. The supported learning students will also continue with their early departure. This initiative has been an amazing success as it has ensured the only people on site are our students, staff and our after school care students. Prior to this afternoon departures have been slightly chaotic.

☼ Non-essential adults are still not permitted on school

grounds or at school events – this includes parents/carers unless specifically approved by the school.

☼ Band lessons will resume from next Tuesday morning. Don’t forget your instruments.

☼ School assemblies will still be run by Zoom. No decision has been made on our Silver assembly. However, the Term 2 Assembly of Excellence has been cancelled.

☼ Non-contact sport has resumed. There are no inter-school competitions. We want to try to hold some sort of Cross Country and Athletics carnivals in the future, possibly next term depending on restrictions.

☼ Scripture and Ethics Classes may resume in Term 3 depending on the availability of personnel to teach these classes.

☼ Choirs may recommence in Term 3.

☼ Parent meetings are to still be via the phone. Communication can be made by phone, email or Seesaw.

☼ All adults must maintain physical distance from each other (1.5m) including teachers, support staff and parents.

☼ Our school photos will be held in August.

Kindergarten Pirate DayOur Kindergarten students are enjoying this special dress up day today. There are some very scary young Pirates around WPS. Some people have been made to walk the plank. I hope someone finds some buried treasure. Semester 1 ReportsThese reports will be simplified due to the disruption to usual schooling caused by Covid-19. Each report will include a comment on the student’s attendance and engagement in schooling during Semester 1. Students will receive excellent, satisfactory or requires improvement for a variety of social development and commitment to learning statements. Teachers will not allocate A – E achievement for the six Key Learning Areas. However, they will report on the current observed achievement in English and Mathematics and include some strategies to support the students further learning.

2021 Kindergarten EnrolmentsAll 2021 Kindergarten students will start their school journey in our magnificent new building on the corner of Waugh and Campbell Streets. Our current Kindergarten children love the new learning spaces.Enrolments for Kindergarten 2021 are now being taken. Please phone the school office and give them your postal address and we will post this year’s enrolment pack to parents. If you have a sibling already enrolled please message your teacher via SeeSaw or contact the office and we will give the Kindergarten enrolment pack to the older brother older sister. If you have a child or know another family with a child who is starting school next year please notify them. Flag PolesThe footings for our new flag poles went in yesterday. Hopefully by next week the flag poles will be in place.

Zoom Assemblies Class 4LR hosted the Zoom assembly on Friday and shared some First Fleet projects.

Canteen NewsONLINE ORDERS CUT OFF IS 8AM EACH DAY!ReminderAll children who are Gluten Free or have Food Allergies and order their lunch from the school canteen must use Red Lunch Bags. These bags can be picked up from the school canteen free of charge. Please state the allergy your child has and circle it on the bag. These lunches do not go out in the class lunch tubs. Your child has to pick it up from the canteen at lunch time. Any questions regarding this matter please ask for Ruth at the canteen to explain the procedure we use.Competition WinnersOur online ordering competition winners for $5 canteen vouchers are: James P - K/6AP, Oliver B - 3KD, Ella B - 1KB, Chana M - 6Jf, Zavier C - 2MG, Alaska J - 1/2 JH, Kaiden T - 5CG, Ihaia P - KJL, Noah F - 6SG and Lucy I 1 - KB$5 vouchers for these children will be kept at the canteen till the end of Term 2 when we resume the counter service.
