Estimated CoverageStandard product coverage on a smooth surface is 100 sq. ft. per gallon per coat (est. 10 mil). More than one coat recommended. More coats equal longer life. Rough surfaces will require additional product and drying time.
3. ApplicationApply Blue Max to the surface using a standard paint roller at the rate of 1 gallon per 100 sq. ft. per coat. We recommend 2 coats minimum or 3 coats for water tanks and cisterns. Blue Max is an elastomeric, and therefore dries slightly tacky. It may be top-coated on roofs with Maximum-Stretch®, and on basement walls with Block & Wall® or Paint & Prime®. When used on roof decks, Blue Max is top coated with Safe-T-Deck®. Blue Max needs to be top coated in applications with direct sun contact to protect from UV degradation. Applications below ground, such as ICF (insulated concrete forms) and water tanks or cisterns do not need to be top coated.
1. Surface PreparationWire brush any loose flaking material off the surface, and remove any dust or particles. Caulk all cracks greater than 1/8" wide with Ames’ Blue Max Trowel Grade and allow to dry. Always run a test patch first, in an inconspicuous area, to ensure proper adhesion and drying, and that the product performs to your satisfaction. Be sure that surface is clean and dry before applying the coating. Do not use any soaps or detergents to clean surface.
2. Prime & Seam TapePrime all inside 90° angles and joints with Blue Max Regular Grade, and let dry. Apply Ames’ Peel & Stick Seam Tape™ to primed areas. Repeat steps with any other cracks or joints on surface. Ames’ Peel & Stick™ Seam Tape is available in 2”(PS250), 4” (PS450) , and 6” (PS650) widths. (See Seam Tape label for instructions.) Apply a liberal topcoat of Blue Max over the Seam Tape and allow to cure. Blue Max is self-priming.
