TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

Uses

Waterproofing of sloped and flat roofs, concrete decks, green roofs, planter boxes and roof gardens (Root Resistant version), gutters, troughs, roof details.Waterproofing of foundation walls, retaining walls and foundation concrete slabs.Repair of weathered asphalt roofing felts.Re-waterproofing of weathered tile.

Features/ Benefits

Icopas Water is a liquid, ready to use, water based, polymer-modified bitumen waterproofing membrane, UV and ponding-water resistant. Its outstanding elongation (2300%) ensures the resulting seamless waterproof sheath is extremely elastic. This membrane conforms to irregular substrate shapes and avoids the seams and overlaps found in prefabricated membranes. The product is ready to use and easily applied by roller, brush and/or airless spray gun, unlike traditional waterproofing methods.Icopas Water is engineered to withstand extremely low temperatures until -25°C.

Surface preparation

Substrate must be dry in order to prevent delamination and blistering of the waterproofing membrane resulting from evaporative flows. Clean surface thoroughly and remove dust, loose material or non-adhering particles, grease, oil and anything that may affect proper adhesion.Concrete: Allow newly built structures to cure fully. Smooth out unfinished or hollow areas with suitable cement binders or fiber-reinforced cement mor-tars, ensuring proper binding to the substrate. Prime with Icopas-Water diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio at a rate of 150-300 gr/sqm depending on substrate absorption.Asphalt roofing felts: Remove loose, flaking paint. Repair degraded overlaps, loose turn-ups and missing or bulging felt portions with a propane torch.Minor cracks can be cold sealed with ICOJOINT BT elastic bitumen cartridge.Sheet metal: Remove rust and apply ICOPOX PM-102 passivator at a rate of 150 gr/sqm.Tile: Check grouts, remove and restore non-adhering portions. Prime with Ico-force at a rate of 300 gr/sqm.

Performances

• Highly elastic: 2300% elongation

• Cold flexibility: -25°C• Seamless• Easy to apply• Watertight• Vapor retarding• Conformable to irregularly

Application methods

• Brush• Roller• Flat Trowel

Application instructions

Apply a minimum of two coats of ICOPAS WATER at 24-hour intervals. It is essential to ensure that subsequent coats are only applied once the previous coat is dry (drying time heavily influenced by ambient conditions). Mini-mum overall spread rate 2 kg/sqm.Areas that are potentially subject to mechanical strain should be reinforced with ICOARM TNT nonwoven fleece or ICOARM BUTYL TAPE self-adhesive strips. The same applies to sundry substrates with diverse tensile strengths and mechanical/ thermal shrinkage. If ICOPAS WATER is applied to tiles, it is recommended that it is reinforced with ICOARM TNT ROLL nonwoven fleece between the first and second coat.In order to extend durability it is advisable to apply to the final coat of ICO-PAS WATER a coat of either:(a) ICOPROT (protective pigmented finish) after 48-72 hours, or(b) ICOALL (protective aluminum paint) after 15-20 daysPlease see relevant product TDS for further information.Substrate must be sufficiently dry. In case moisture is contained within a concrete substrate, EXIT AIR vent pipes should be installed to allow outgas-sing and prevent water vapor from damaging the membrane (pipe num-ber and positioning depending on substrate type and moisture content; please refer to TDS).Drying time 24 hours at standard 23°C temperature and 50% R.H. Colder weather will slow drying.

Caution

• The ultimate performances such as cold flexibility and ponding water resistance are only achieved upon full curing of the membrane (approx. 15 days from application).

• Protective paint applied over ICOPAS WATER may experience over time the so-called “alligatoring” process: that is a patterned cracking which occurs as a result of the thermal shrinkage discrepancy with the waterproofing membrane. It only affects the appearance, which can be restored by applying an additional coat of paint as part of a regular maintenance plan.

• When waterproofing retaining walls, place a reinforcing and separation layer between ICOPAS WATER and the drainage and backfill material.

• Stir to mix if necessary.• Treat joints and cracks in the substrate with suitable techniques. Isolation

joints, control joints and floor-wall transitions must be sealed with ICOJOINT BT.• Apply at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C.• Allow primer to dry fully.• Avoid the use of universal bitumen primers.
