Use the water
Mississauga has several key but disconnected waterfront opportunity sites that are physically well suited to redevelopment and not impeded by traditional barriers such as an expressway or rail lines;
Each of these sites require a vision that is initially community driven, then professionally expanded into a master plan, then implemented in a rational and viable series of development parcels.
Overview
Connect the Waterfront
The view towards the lake
Our vision is a continuous waterfront that is a vibrant place of integrated diverse spaces celebrated for its groundbreaking contribution to the environmental, economic, social and physical wellbeing of all Mississaugans.
Redevelop: ◦ Brownfield sites converted to mixed use ◦ Industry, utilities and commerce conform to community environmental
priorities, not vice versa Restore ◦ Water quality ◦ Access to, on and at the waterfront ◦ Visibility of sky ◦ Air Quality
Preserve ◦ Celebrate cultural and natural heritage resources
Diversity ◦ Meeting needs for prosperous living, working, socializing, contemplating ◦ Inclusive, not exclusive
Our Vision
Touch the water
Hear the water
multiple government stakeholders created political obstacles slowing progress
some capital improvements such as restoring the Don River have not been accounted for financially
the excessive use of consultants tended to increase costs and slow progress
Return on investment strategies must be based on more than only financial returns. Health, design, environment, culture and other wellbeing benefits must be part of the evaluation of returns.
Ongoing tax burdens must be avoided for future generations.

The best examples of Waterfront
Development are facilitated by a Waterfront Development Corporation.
In order to best achieve its highest goals, we have determined that Mississauga requires a Waterfront Development Corporation to; Monitor emerging Master Plans to ensure viability
and avoid a future tax burden
