Note from Your President Italian Mayor for the Day Thank you to everyone who attended the Waterbury Italian Mayor for the Day/ Columbus Day Celebration on Friday, October 5th. We were blessed to have the sun shining down on us as we honored Nick Rinaldi for his service to the Italian Community. Fr. Ferraro gave a heart warming homily at Mass encouraging us all to “remember where we come from”, Dawn Maiorano’s stunning a capella rendition our National Anthem gave us goosebumps, Francine Nido recycled her Grandfather’s welcoming address from 1978 to remind us of our long standing history, and Dr. Joanne D’Angelo’s speech made us proud to be Italian-American!! The lunch at La Bella Vista was delicious and through it all, Nick and Mary Lou Rinaldi expressed their joy and gratitude for being bestowed such an honor. I begin my 2 nd “cycle” of Presidency of the Waterbury Chapter of UNICO National, I wanted to reinforce to all of us the basic mission of UNICO. The founding members of UNICO chose our name not only to capture our uniqueness but by also having each letter describe exactly the values they hoped to instill within the community. U- UNITY: Webster Dictionary describes Unity as “(a) The state or quality of being one; singleness and (b) The state or quality of being in accord; harmony.” Unity is important because people can do more together than when they are a part. It takes less effort and time for something to get done when many people are working together. It shows that there is agreement on a project or direction by more than one individual. It allows for the work load to be carried by the many. Unity in our Chapter is important because it is the glue that keeps us together. Working as individuals for a common cause - all with different stories, talents and skills - all with the same goal. We can’t be divided. We must remain joined together to ensure that the mission of UNICO is realized. We are a large Chapter with many personalities but we have to remember that we must all put our differences aside and work together for the common good of the Chapter. We may not agree with every decision, vote, suggestion or event, but have to remain cohesive or we will never succeed. With that, I ask that you all remain committed and supportive of our Chapter and the ventures taking place this year. Some you may like, some you many not, some you may question “What are they thinking”, but please know that the decisions being made are done so with the Board’s full consultation & consideration. Chi non risica, non rosica. Give us your support and know that in UNITY anything in UNICO is possible. Thank you for your time and talents! Note from Your President
Italian Mayor for the Day
Thank you to everyone who attended the
Waterbury Italian Mayor for the Day/
Columbus Day Celebration on Friday,
October 5th. We were blessed to have
the sun shining down on us as we
honored Nick Rinaldi for his service to
the Italian Community. Fr. Ferraro gave
a heart warming homily at Mass
encouraging us all to “remember where
we come from”, Dawn Maiorano’s
stunning a capella rendition our National
Anthem gave us goosebumps, Francine
Nido recycled her Grandfather’s
welcoming address from 1978 to remind
us of our long standing history, and Dr.
Joanne D’Angelo’s speech made us
proud to be Italian-American!! The lunch
at La Bella Vista was delicious and
through it all, Nick and Mary Lou Rinaldi
expressed their joy and gratitude for
being bestowed such an honor.
I begin my 2nd “cycle” of
Presidency of the Waterbury
Chapter of UNICO National, I
wanted to reinforce to all of us
the basic mission of UNICO. The
founding members of UNICO
chose our name not only to
capture our uniqueness but by
also having each letter describe
exactly the values they hoped to
instill within the community.
U- UNITY: Webster Dictionary
describes Unity as “(a) The state
or quality of being one;
singleness and (b) The state or
quality of being in accord;
harmony.” Unity is important
because people can do more
together than when they are a
part. It takes less effort and
time for something to get done
when many people are working
together. It shows that there is
agreement on a project or
direction by more than one
individual. It allows for the work
load to be carried by the many.
Unity in our Chapter is important
because it is the glue that
keeps us together. Working as
individuals for a common cause
- all with different stories,
talents and skills - all with the
same goal. We can’t be divided.
We must remain joined together
to ensure that the mission of
UNICO is realized. We are a
large Chapter with many
personalities but we have to
remember that we must all put
our differences aside and work
together for the common good
of the Chapter. We may not
agree with every decision, vote,
suggestion or event, but have to
remain cohesive or we will never
succeed.
With that, I ask that you all
remain committed and
supportive of our Chapter and
the ventures taking place this
year. Some you may like, some
you many not, some you may
question “What are they
thinking”, but please know that
the decisions being made are
done so with the Board’s full
consultation & consideration.
Chi non risica, non rosica. Give
us your support and know that
in UNITY anything in UNICO is
possible.
Thank you for your time and
talents!
Yours in UNICO!!
