Water pollutionOver two third of earth’s surface is covered by

water , less than a third is taken by land. As earth’s population continues to grow, people are putting ever – increasing pressure on the planet’s water resources. In a sense , our oceans , rivers , and other inland waters are being “squeezed” by human activities – not so they take up less room, but so their quality is reduced. Poorer water quality means water pollution .

Source of Water Pollution

• Point Source Pollution– If the pollution comes from a single source

such as sewage treatment, a factory or a city storm drain.

• Non point Source Pollution– If the pollution comes from many source, it

is called non point-source pollution.

Types Of Water Pollution• Surface water pollution

Found on the exterior of the earth crust, ocean rivers and lakes

• Ground water PollutionFound in under soil or under rock structure or aquifers

• Microbiological pollution microorganisms that thrives on water and fishes that can

cause illness to land animals and humans

• Oxygen depletion pollution Microorganisms that in water an feeds on biodegradable

substances

How do we know when water is polluted

There are two ways of mesearing the quality of water. Chemical indicators

different chemicals that it contains. If the chemicals are dangerous or the concentration are too great, we can regard the water as polluted.

Biological indicatorsIf many different types of creature can live in a

river, the quality of water is likely to be very good; if river support no fish at all, the quality is obviously mush poorer at

Different Causes of Water Pollution

Sewage domestic household industrials and

agricultural practice produce waste water that can cause pollution of many lakes and rivers

Page 7: Water pollution

Industrial Waste

Industry is a huge source of water pollution it produce pollutant that are extremely harmful to people and environment

Page 8: Water pollution

Radioactive WasteNuclear waste is produced from

industrial ,medical and scientific processes that use radioactive material.

Page 9: Water pollution

Under ground storage Leakage• A tank or piping that has at

least 10 percent is volume underground is known as an underground storage tank . They often store as a substances such as petroleum, that are harmful to the surrounding environment should it become contaminated

Page 10: Water pollution

Oil pollution

• comes from routine shipping , oil people pour down drains on land and comes from tanker accident

Page 11: Water pollution

Chemical pollution

• Industrial and agricultural work involves the use of many different chemicals that can run off into water and pollute it

Page 12: Water pollution

Marine Dumping• Dumping of liter in sea

can causes a huge problems. Liter item such as it pack ring packaging can get caught in marine animals can death. Different item take different length of time to degrade in water

Page 13: Water pollution

Pollution Caused By Air• In the atmosphere water,

particles mix with carbon dioxide sulfur dioxide nitrogen dioxide this form a weak acid .

• Air pollution means that water vapor absorbed more of those gases and become even more acidic.

• When it rains water is more polluted with this gases, this called acid rain.

• When acid rain pollutes marine habitant such as river an lakes, aquatic life is harmed.

Effects on Environment• Toxic Water• Thermal Heating • Our Source of water

Page 15: Water pollution

Effect on Human

Caused by polluted beach water

•Diarrhea – 3 million death

•Gastroenteritis

• Stomach cramps and aches

• Vomiting

•Hepatitis

• Respiratory infections

Page 16: Water pollution

Infectious diseases caused by pathogens •Typhoid

•Giardiasis

•Amoebiasis

•Ascariasis

•Hookworm

Page 17: Water pollution

Effect on Animal• Poisoning living water• Poisoning animals food• Unbalanced river and lake ecosystem• Deforestation from acid rain

Page 18: Water pollution

How do we prevent water pollution

• Fertilize Correctly• Turning off running water

Page 19: Water pollution

How do we prevent water pollution

• Participate in clean up

• Don’t throw litter into water• Use environmentally household product

Page 20: Water pollution

How do we prevent water pollution

• Join a special society devoted to the prevention of water pollution

• Observe 22 March as World Water day
