Water Infrastructure Improvement Program APRIL 2016 CONSTRUCTION E-NEWSLETTER If you are sasfied with the City's standard placement of the meter in the easement area, no payment is necessary and no acon is required on your part. If you choose to have your meter installed in the sidewalk rather than in the easement area, you will need to pay a cost of $400. EASEMENT INSTALLATION = $0 SIDEWALK INSTALLATION = $400 Note: If ulity conflicts in the easement area require the City to install the meter within the sidewalk and you have paid for this opon, your sidewalk opon payment will be refunded. HOMEOWNER OPTION ! • Metering will begin approximately 3-6 months aſter meter is installed • Comparave bills (flat vs. metered rate) will be mailed for one year to idenfy usage and metered rate • Metered rate goes into effect following one year of comparave billing • Once comparave billing begins, you can opt to switch immediately to metered billing WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER METER INSTALLATION? OVERVIEW In 2005, the City began installing meters on 105,000 unmetered water service connecons. State Mandate AB2572 requires full metering by 2025. The City’s goal is to transion customers to a metered rate by 2020. Due to aging infrastructure, many installaons also include improvements such as relocang backyard main pipelines to the street or replacing older mains within the street. However, the current mandate does not provide funding to help offset this work. Despite these challenges, steady progress has been made over the years. The City has installed thousands of meters and secured funding through rate adjustments, grants and bond sales to help accelerate the program and minimize the financial burden on customers.
