The Water Cycle

Water has been around for billions of years. It gets recycled over and over again

What is the Water Cycle? The changes to water when it evaporates into the air, condenses into clouds, and then precipitates down to earth.

EvaporationThe process that occurs when water changes from a liquid to a gas, caused by heat. Evaporation

- Solar energy drives evaporation of water from the ocean.

- The evaporated water changes from a liquid form into water vapor a gaseous form.

Condensation- The cooling of water in the atmosphere, changing gas to a liquid.

- Evaporated water is warmed and rises into the air where it eventually cools and condenses to form clouds.

Precipitation When clouds become very heavy with condensed water, droplets fall from the atmosphere in the form of rain, sleet, snow or hail.

Water is always on the move!

The Suns energy causes water to evaporate from oceans and lakes into the atmosphere. Plants and animals also release water vapor into the atmosphere as they breathe.

When the atmosphere cools, water vapor condenses; making clouds

The clouds produce rain or snow (precipitation).

Now you know that Water has been recycled in its different forms as ice, liquid, or vapor for more than 3.5 billion years.

THIS IS THE WATER CYCLE!
