WATER CONSERVATION Water conservation refers to reducing usage of water and recycling of waste water for different purposes such as cleaning ,manufacturing and agricultural irrigation. Water conservation includes the policies, strategies and activities to manage fresh water as a sustainable resource to protect the water environment and to meet current and future human demand.

WATER CONSERVATION

WATER CONSERVATION MOVEMENT IN INDIA

• Tarun Bharat Sangh (TBS) is a non-governmental organization in Rajasthan. It is directed by Rajendra Singh. The organization works to provide clean water to people.

• Tarun Bharat Sangh was founded in 1975 in Jaipur by a group of students and professors from the University of Rajasthan.

• The NGO based in village Kishori-Bhikampura in Thanagazi tehsil, has helped villagers take charge of water management through the use of JOHAD, rainwater storage tanks, check dams and other time-tested as well as path-breaking techniques.

• Starting from a single village in 1985, over the years TBS helped build over 8,600 johads and other water conservation structures to collect rainwater for the dry seasons, has brought water back to over 1,000 villages and revived five rivers in Rajasthan,arvari, Ruparel, Sarsa, Bhagani and Jahajwali.

• Rejuvenated several rivers around Alwar• TBS also started the ‘JAL BIRADARI’ program in

april 2001 for creation of awareness among the people regarding national water policy.

New technique of non-violent protest ,people went to water for protesting.

In M.P villagers went into waist deep water in Narmada river and they were feared that rising water level of dam might submerge their land.

In Chennai also the protesters waded into sea near nuclear power plant at kundankulam to demand that project to be shut down.
