Till the end of the 90s – only deposit in Landfills(more or less 300 – one per Municipality.
Then comes PERSU
The old Landfills were closed and new infrastructures were built.
Instead of one Landfill per Municipality, this structures began to be used by several Municipalities (beginning of intercity organization)
Private companies are created and make protocols with the Cities.
Instead of the 257 waste management companies we now have only 23.
Trash separation bins that exist at the public places are responsibility of this management companies but the waste management itself is responsibility of Sociedade Ponto Verde (Green Dot Society)
Specific waste like batteries have protocols with the intermunicipaly companies and other waste management companies

Crises seems not to affect families separation, but the comsumption has been reduced because of crises, so therefore is less waste
