The National Mall in Washington D.C., one of themost popular tourist destinations in the USA, andsite to presidential inaugurations and political rallies,is the country’s most visited park. With an estimated24 million visitors a year walking on the grounds ofThe Mall, the soil has been so heavily trampled andcompacted that grass has been hard to grow. Thestate of disrepair of this national symbol has longcalled for renovation of its grounds.

Stancills Inc. is a family owned and operatedMaryland engineered soils manufacturing companylocated along the northern shores of the ChesapeakeBay. Founded in 1934 by G.L. Stancill, a farmer fromNorth Carolina who ventured into the business ofsand and gravel mining, Stancill started with acollection of material from gravel banks using only ashovel and a pickup truck. He funded his enterprisewith savings from his four years of service in theArmy.

In 1938, the company’s productivity grew dramati-cally when Stancill acquired his first mechanicalshovel and by the time the Second World War brokeout, G.L.’s service to his country came in the form ofhis business. During that time, Stancills Inc. came tobe considered essential to the war effort.

As the business grew successfully, it went on to beoperated by three of G.L.’s four sons. Today StancillsInc. is run in partnership by G.L Stancill’s son Terryand Terry’s daughter Emlyn Stancill.

Changing TimesAs the area grew, the market for construction mate-

rials became a very competitive one. Stancills Inc.needed a new strategy to stay ahead of the game. The Sandvik 9

demand for manufactured soil in the region, combined with environmental legislation requiringthe use of specialized soils for storm water mitigation, made the engineered soils business a worthwhilechoice.

Accordingly, they chose to diversify into thatspecialty and away from sand and gravel mining. This vision, combined with the attention to detail ofcustomers’ current and future needs, allowed thenew business model to thrive. It made Stancills Inc.the engineered soil supplier of choice within theregion. Most recently, this company stature provedessential in winning the contract for the topsoilscreening project at the National Mall.

The task of renovating the topsoil of one of thenational symbols of the USA is not a minor one. Therequired material specification was very fine: 1/2-inch. This material needed to be sized out from thegrounds, which, over time, had accumulated a con-siderable amount of debris and gravel. This kind ofprecision screening requires a very productive andreliable machine.

The Stancills chose the Sandvik QA440, a trackedunit which features Sandvik’s unique, revolutionary, patented Doublescreen technology. “We choseSandvik because of the competitive pricing and the(unit’s) quality of course,” says Emlyn. “But most ofall, we chose the Sandvik unit because of the excel-lent support received from Chris Quinn, from AES.His customer service (to us) has been essential. Morethan a salesman, he has felt like a member of ourteam.”

The Mall jobsiteThe work involved feeding the stockpiled, excavat-

ed soil directly into the hopper with a loader. TheQA440’s hopper can handle up to 14.8-square-yardand can be also fed from an excavator or anotherscreener if so configured. In order to achieve the 1/2-inch final product size required, this machine wasfitted with 2 and 1/2-inch square meshes. The topmesh screened out oversize material, which wasabundant in this project.

The unit’s Doublescreen design allows for the twoscreen boxes to be tilted at different angles to oneanother for optimum efficiency. In this application, the first box was positioned at a very steep angle inorder to quickly eliminate the oversized material.Because this technology is unique in the market, itmakes this machine one of the most efficient and reli-able mobile screeners available.

Additionally, the QA440 boasts an impressive 20-foot x 5-foot screening area with side and mainconveyors designed for massive stockpiling capabili-ties of over 16-feet, 10-inches. This makes the QA440ideal for demanding applications where production iskey.

Because the unit is track mounted and self-pro-pelled, it can be easily maneuvered within the site via

remote control. That allows for easy movement and aquick start up for production in a different location. In this way, the QA440 is ideal for screening jobswhere reliability, flexibility, mobility and high pro-duction are paramount. It was especially helpful onThe Mall project as it is in other urban locations withrestricted access.

Area Manager Chris Quinn, from AdvancedEquipment, distributor for Sandvik mobile crushersand screeners in the Mid-Atlantic States, says:

“Dealing with Terry and Emlyn has been an absolutepleasure. They were keen in getting the right equip-ment and working closely together with them in orderto understand their needs has been essential. It givesme great joy to see how we have contributed to maketheir business prosper.”

MONTREAL, QC — Anew multi-camera opera-tor vision system fromRMT Equipment is “job-site rated” to increasesafe operation in thelargest heavy dutyequipment operations.

The TRACK-VISIONsystems from RMT areequipped to connect upto four cameras to a sin-gle monitor. According toMarc Lefebvre, salesmanager for RMT, “In-stalling a four camerasystem on your miningtruck or crushing plantis as easy as setting upone backup camera. Youjust run the insulatedcable from the cameraand plug it in.”

Lefebvre says thatsafety conscious equip-ment owners are nowequipping more ma-chines with multiplecameras to bring rearand side views of thejobsite into the cabalong with “tool views, with the camera mount-ed all round the ma-chine or on a primary orsecondary crusher orconveyor system.”

TRACK-VISION moni-tors borrow a page fromthe security camera in-dustry by offering opera-tors a choice of displaysfor the images from theircameras. Using the“quad box option,” dis-play modes include afixed view of a single se-lected camera, or anauto mode that rotatesthrough all cameras insequence, or a splitscreen view that displaysall camera images to-gether. The high resolu-tion 800 x 480 image onthe standard 7-inchmonitor ensures a clearlook in all directions withthe split view display. The optional 10-inchTRACK-VISION monitoris also available for ap-plications in which thesplit screen will be usedfrequently or for viewinglarge work zones.

The On Screen Display(OSD) system built intothe monitor enablesusers to label their viewsin terms that are mostmeaningful and intuitivefor the operator.

Multiple backup safety

cameras are essential foroperating large ma-chines or crushingplants. Along with exca-vators, Lefebvre especial-ly recommends boomcameras for demolitionequipment, where theoperator may reach overand behind a wall whenequipped with either abreaker or shear.

Unlike devices de-signed for automotive orsurveillance use, howev-er, TRACK-VISION moni-tors are built specificallyfor the working condi-tions faced by heavyequipment. The bright-ness of the TRACK-VI-SION monitors adjustautomatically to ambientlight, ensuring clarityand reducing operatorfatigue throughout longduty cycles in any sea-son. An integrated sunvisor is included in allmodels. The LED dis-plays are housed in fullywatertight enclosures toprevent moisture andhumidity from cloudingthe view or damaging in-ternal electronics. Theyare proven resistant toimpacts and vibrationand they have testedsuccessfully in tempera-tures ranging from -50 to185 degrees.

For additional reliabil-ity, the monitors areequipped with built-insurge protection and fil-tering to insulate inter-nal components fromuneven power supply. All TRACK-VISION mon-itors are compatiblewith both 12 V and 24 Velectrical systems.

Established by Boband Marc Lefebvre in1996, today RMT Equip-ment is a leading NorthAmerican specialist inweighing solutions andthe TRACK-VISIONCamera System forwheel loaders, forklifts, log loaders, excavators, mining trucks, scrapersand conveyor belt scalesand metal detectors.RMT is the North Ameri-can Head Office for theVEI Payload Manage-ment Systems (LoaderScales) and the Canadi-an Head Office for Sc-iTronics belt scales andmetal detectors. In 2010,

RMT introduced NorthAmerica to the XW fami-ly of wireless cranescales and grapple scalesdeveloped by Intermer-cato AB of Sweden. RMTsystems and solutionsare sold and serviced bya growing network ofequipment dealersthroughout the United

Recent sales successrewards Atlantic’s pio-neering work to estab-lish “simple” materialhandlers as the indus-

try standard in AmericaHAMPTON, VA — In

scrap handling facilitiesfrom coast to coast, thedistinctive green ma-chines from SENNEBO-GEN are one of the indus-try’s most familiar sights, loading trucks andbarges, feeding shred-ders, stacking bales…

Today, SENNEBOGEN isrecognized everywhere as aleader in purpose built ma-terial handling equipment. But 10 years ago, it was adifferent story.

“When we began sellingSENNEBOGEN, we weretaking in a machine thatnobody had ever heardof,” recalls GarlandMiles, sales manager ofAtlantic Equipment &Supply Inc., based inHampton, VA. “Saleswere not easy. We weregoing to the expense andthe time to basically givecustomers a machineand hope we could con-vert it into a sale oncethey could see how itworked and why we werepromoting it to them.”

In 2012, Atlantic hasbeen celebrating its10th year with SEN-NEBOGEN after winningthe manufacturer’s“Dealer of the Year”award as the top sellingdistributor in 2011.

Constantino Lannes, president of SENNEBO-GEN LLC, said, “It’s apleasure to have this op-portunity to recognize thegreat work AtlanticEquipment has been do-ing for us for so manyyears. They show whatcan be accomplished ifyou develop and serve theterritory well.”

Rooted in equipmentservice and repair

Jim Smelgus, presidentof Atlantic, founded thefirm as an equipment re-pair and service businessmore than 20 years ago. When Erich Sennebogenarrived from Germanylooking for someone tohelp launch his family’smaterial handlers inAmerica, Smelgus’ focuson service and partsdovetailed perfectly withthe company’s blueprintfor long term success.

“These weren’t the firsttrue material handlers wehad seen,” says Smelgus.“But most scrap yardswere still using cablecranes and antiquatedexcavators that were con-verted with some kind ofgrapple. Being first does-n’t always mean better! The first line of materialhandlers to come herefailed because of service.”

Atlantic entered theequipment sales businesswith customers’ confi-dence that Smelgus andhis team would stand be-hind the product. SEN-NEBOGEN’s plan was toreinforce that confidencewith reliable parts supplyand excellent applicationsupport. Smelgus notesthat SENNEBOGEN’s na-tionwide sales success isstill rooted in its commit-ment to the service side ofthe business. After estab-lishing a base in Char-lotte, NC, SENNEBOGENbuilt a 54,000-square-foot parts warehouse andtraining facility in thenearby town of Stanley.Recently, Lannes an-nounced expansion plansthat will nearly double itssize to 100,000-square-feet by the end of 2012.“What they have done toimprove the product injust the past five years

has been phenomenal,”Smelgus says. “It justgoes to show you thatthey are very committedto the North Americanmarket and they have lis-tened carefully to boththe dealers and their cus-tomers. Through that, you can see why so manyequipment customershave become SENNEBO-GEN customers.”

Support leads salesgrowth

According to Garland

Miles, the second keypoint in SENNEBOGEN’sgrowth strategy was toavoid growing too fast.“Erich Sennebogen’sgame plan from the get-go was to focus on quali-ty and service. He didn’tstart off dumping ma-chines with low ballprices, he did it the oldfashioned way: by prov-ing the machine was agood one.” The companyset a policy that it wouldnot sell a machine until a

servicing dealer was inplace locally and thecomplete parts list wason the shelf.

The Atlantic team tookan active part in helpingSENNEBOGEN refine itsprogram for the U.S. mar-ket. Smelgus’ fluency inGerman helped to estab-lish a close friendshipwith the founder of thefamily firm, the late ErichSennebogen Sr. “Erich Sr.was very personable andas down-to-earth as any-

one could be. He was veryopen-minded to our expe-rience with the materialhandling industry in theU.S., so it was a learningexperience for both of us.”

A winning strategyThe gamble ultimately

paid off as SENNEBO-GEN emerged as a highlytrusted brand, not only inAmerica’s scrap yards, but in river ports, wastehandling, mills and

forestry applications as well. “Thescrap business is a real fraternity,”Miles observes. “If one guy does some-thing, the others know about it; wordjust spreads.”

“SENNEBOGEN was an unknownthen but once when you got around totelling them it was a non-computerizedsystem, that’s when they stood up andtook notice,” he continues. “Especiallywhen the customer had a shredder inthe yard. For other machines with a

computer onboard, all the fluff wouldjust make a mess of the connectionsand the normal mechanic had no way tofix them. The simplicity of SENNEBO-GEN means that our techs can at leastwalk their mechanics through some ofthe less complicated issues in order tokeep them operational. With a few min-utes on the phone, we can get them upand running, then they turn aroundand make us look good to the peoplebuying the equipment.”

Repeat sales sustain growthThe foundation that Atlantic helped to

build with quality and service led thedealership to its highly successful salesyear in 2011. Serving a territory that in-cludes Maryland and Virginia, Atlanticstill finds new opportunities to expandits customer base. “Most of those earlyprospects in the scrap business thatdidn’t get on board with us 10 years agohave since become SENNEBOGEN cus-tomers,” says Miles. “Since most of thescrap processed here is going to export,up to 90 percent of it, we recently took

on container tilters so we can deliver acomplete top-loading solution for yardsshipping through the Port of Baltimore.

At this point in Atlantic’s sales strate-gy, Smelgus and Miles agree that, “…repeat business is our claim to fame…”With commitment to service as theircornerstone, Atlantic and SENNEBO-GEN look forward to seeing every salefrom past turn into satisfied customersfor the future.

• Standard rearviewcamera for improvedworksite visibility.

The new turbochargeddiesel engine of theMHL350 E features in-creased power and lowerfuel consumption. Thenew handler boasts a 214hp engine, eight percentmore power output thanthe MHL350 D. At the

same time, specific fuelconsumption of the en-gine is reduced by 11 per-cent. Economical and en-vironmentally friendly, the MHL350 E runscleaner and more effi-ciently than ever before.

The handler’s enginefeatures a cooled ExhaustGas Recirculation (EGR)system with Diesel Oxi-dation Catalyst (DOC)and Diesel ParticulateFilter (DPF) to offer thelatest in emissions con-trol technology. Regener-ation of the particulate

filter cleaning occurs au-tomatically, without im-pacting machine per-formance. The regenera-tion process can be tem-porarily interrupted, ifnecessary, by pressing anindicator button locatedon the control panel. En-gine start/stop is nowpush button controlled toproperly manage engineshutdown while undercritical load conditions orduring DPF regeneration.

A new high performancemain hydraulic pump in-creases pump capacity by

three percent. Combinedwith improved engine per-formance, the increasedoil flow provides greaterhandling efficiency of theMHL350 E. Both the en-gine and hydraulic systemincorporate larger coolingsystems protected by vent-ed panels that provide in-creased airflow. The en-gine’s new hydraulicallypowered fan is designed toautomatically adjust air-flow based on operatingconditions to provide anoptimal level of cooling.

Controls inside the

spacious cab have beenupdated to improve oper-ator efficiency and com-fort. At 23 percent largerthan previous designs, the Wide Video GraphicsArray (WVGA) display in-cludes a higher resolu-tion and higher contrastscreen with an antiglareshield and scratch resist-ant coating. Intuitive con-trols make for a shortlearning curve ofMHL350 E operation andthe ergonomic multifunc-tion button delivers ef-fortless fingertip naviga-tion through the display.

The Man Machine In-terface (MMI) box for thestandard 20 kW onboardgenerator system is nowincorporated into thecab display for improvedefficiency. The MHL350E offers four operatingmodes for the magnet at-tachment — small, medium and large partshandling and a joggingmode for sorting.

Machine filters andcentral lubrication sys-tem are accessed via astow away ladder leadingto the machine’s centrallylocated service platform. The handler’s fuel pre-filter is now mounted ontop of the fuel tank foreasier servicing. The largecoolers for the engine andhydraulic system arelockable and readily ac-cessed from ground level.Additional CAN Bus con-nections found on theMHL350 E expand diag-nostic capabilities, soservice technicians canidentify and address un-derlying issues.

Hydraulically heightadjustable, the handler’scab offers a maximumeye level elevation of up to18.4-foot above groundlevel, improving perform-ance during loading/un-loading procedures. Itscushioned cab elevationsystem provides absorp-tion of shocks and joltsfor operator comfort.

The new MHL350 E isequipped with a standardrearview camera system.Color video of the areabehind the machine is

visible on the WVGA dis-play, providing an ex-panded view of the workarea around the machine. The handler’s contouredcounterweight is de-signed to protect thecamera from damageduring operation.

Purpose built to with-stand the extreme operat-ing conditions encoun-tered in scrap handlingand recycling applica-tions, the new TerexFuchs MHL350 E also in-corporates many featuresfound on its predecessorthat deliver reliable oper-ation. Rigid hydraulicpipes on the stick, boomand undercarriage offersuperior protection fromdamage. Steel platesshielding the hydrauliclines at the end of thestick offer additional pro-tection against damage toimprove system reliabili-ty. Inverted hydrauliccylinder mounting pro-vides protection duringtruck and rail car load-ing/unloading and re-duces exposure to debrisand moisture to improvelongevity. The MHL350E’s rugged double rowslewing ring design dis-perses forces over tworows of bearings to im-prove component servicelife and durability.

Terex Corporation is adiversified global manu-facturer of a broad rangeof equipment that is fo-cused on delivering reli-able, customer driven so-lutions for many applica-tions, including the con-struction, infrastructure, quarrying, mining, ship-ping, transportation, re-fining, energy, utility andmanufacturing indus-tries. It’s believed by many that everything happens for areason and that, even though we fail to immediatelysee the purpose behind an event or an action, some-thing good will come of it. Such was the case forZblewski Brothers, LLC. Operating a growing treeservice company in the late ‘70s, they’d becomeaccustomed to bringing wood waste from theirprojects back to their property to stockpile and burn. While effective, the activity eventually caught theattention of the Wisconsin Department of NaturalResources (DNR) which told them that, because of thegrowing volumes, an alternative method of woodwaste disposal would have to be found. To some, thiswould have been a deterrent to continued operation;to the Zblewski’s it ushered in a new era of growth. As the company nears its 35th year in business, ithas embraced a number of different grinding andchipping technologies over the years, currentlyoperates a Morbark 6600 Wood Hog to replace thelarge scale bonfire, and has become the go-to sourcefor landclearing in central Wisconsin. Though theyhaven’t formally thanked the DNR, the thought isthere.

Excellence in IronBased in Plover, WI, just outside Stevens Point,

Zblewski Brothers has a rich history, much of which

revolves around a continual effort to make the woodwaste recycling process better through continuedimprovement in its equipment. According to ownerRoger Zblewski, that effort started in 1978, shortlyafter the no burn notification from the DNR.

“When we realized that we would no longer beburning debris, we went to a Morbark office that waslocated in Tomahawk at the time and looked at asmall gas powered chipper,” he says. “Knowing whatwe had to do in terms of volume, I told the salesmanI didn’t think that was going to do it. We decided toget a larger diesel instead and haven’t looked backsince.”

He adds that a close relationship with Morbarkdeveloped, and years later when the company wasworking on an early design of a larger chipper,

Zblewski was invited to the plant in Michigan to lookat the unit, identify any problem areas, offer anysuggestions to make it better, etc.

“That’s really what we like about the company,” hesays. “They reach out to users like me to see what wethink or what we’d change, and then incorporate oursuggestions into their new designs. I’m fairly surethat doesn’t go on everywhere else in the industry.”

Moving upAs Zblewski Brothers’ business grew from a tree

service company to one with more of an emphasis onland clearing, so too, did its choice of equipment. While chippers were fine during those early years (thecompany had worked its way up to a 36-inch model),larger diameter debris and a growing volume made

Nothing cheesy about this operationNothing cheesy about this operationWisconsin company turns DNR requirement into a thriving wood waste operation.

additional moves necessary. Zblewski says a horizon-tal grinder made the most sense.

“By this time — it was around 1998-we had foundlocal paper plants who were interested in our materi-al and, for them, material size was not really aconcern since they were reprocessing the materialthrough a hammermill at their plants. So we onceagain turned to Morbark and this time purchased a5600 Wood Hog. The horizontal grinder gave us thevolumes we needed to keep them supplied. With thatmove, I guess we were officially in the recyclingbusiness.”

The company relied upon that 5600 for more thansix years until volumes again grew to such an extentthat an additional upsizing was needed. In 2004, theytook delivery of a 6600 Wood Hog which is still in usetoday and which Zblewski says has been an amazingmachine.

“The 6600 has been outstanding for us since webought it — and we are coming up on eight years ofsolid use,” says Dennis Zblewski. “A good deal of thatsatisfaction is, obviously, because Morbark buildsmachines to stand up to punishment. But I alsoknow that we maintain our equipment better thanmost. By comparison, we knew a local company thathad an identical machine to ours and ran it into theground by not doing any maintenance on it at all. This is a lot different from a payloader in which theonly thing that takes any punishment is the bucket. On a grinder, the whole machine is constantly work-ing for you and it needs attention. After all this time, ours is faded, but it still runs like a top.”

Roger Zblewski stresses that they traded in their5600 only because they needed additional volume, not because there was anything they didn’t like aboutthe unit. “In fact, not too long ago I heard that thatsame machine is currently at work making boiler fuelin far northern Canada. You just can’t keep a goodmachine down.”

Choices aboundWhile they do accept material from area business-

es and residents at their eight acre site, theoverwhelming majority of the material they get comesfrom their own landclearing projects. Zblewski saysthey generally operate within a 100 mile radius oftheir location and have a couple of options for han-dling the onsite debris: they can either process andload the material at the site, or haul it back to theirlocation to be run through the grinder. Onsite work,he says can be equally varied.

“Landclearing work varies from job to job,” he says.“But ideally we like to get in there with an excavatorand our grinder, process the material, load it intotrucks and send it off to the mills. Occasionally, werun into logs that need downsizing on the spot andfor those cases, we contacted Wally Robison,Morbark’s regional sales manager, who hooked us upwith a Morbark stump shear that we call the‘dinosaur nose.’ It will split almost anything andreally helps keep efficiencies up for us.”

The grinding operation has grown to such an extentthat, what was once an offshoot of the tree service company, is now generating roughly 500 tons of

boiler fuel per week.“We are fortunate to have a customer who will take

just about everything we can give them,” saysZblewski. “Mind you, because so much of the wastewe handle is diseased wood, all of our material goesstrictly for hog fuel — there really is no other use forit at that point. However, we take the fines that aregenerated as a part of the grinding process, compostthem and create a rich black dirt which we sell inbulk to area residents and companies. It’s a niceadditional source of revenue from what was once justa waste product.”

All in the familyAs the name implies, Zblewski Brothers is truly a

family affair. Joining Roger in the operation are hisbrother Fred; sons Jon and Dennis; his wife Milliewho manages the office and daughter-in-law Jaclynwho works part time in their office. Jeremy Weber

and Scott Skibba, laborers, round out the ZblewskiBrothers team.

“Even Jeremy and Scott, who are not relatives, have been here long enough to feel like family,” saysZblewski. “We all take a lot of pride in what we do andI think that’s part of the reason we’ve been able to dothis for so long. We’ve also been fortunate to have agreat relationship, not just with Morbark, but alsowith Nortrax, our equipment dealer. Bruce Stitely, our Nortrax rep, is a former Morbark employee andhas been calling on us in one form or another formore than 20 years now. That means a lot in termsof understanding our grinding needs and gettingthings done. All told, we’ve been really blessed tohave had such great relationships over the years andlook forward to what’s to come.”

Even old wooden fencing material becomes a useful resource when it comes to making quality mulch andbiofuel.

MILLSTONE TOWN-SHIP, NJ — Advance TireInc. has just introducedthe Kolossus Solid Tire tothe U.S. market. TheKolossus soft ride solid

tire line represents thelatest innovation in solidOTR tire technology. When the Kolossus Tirewas designed we lookedto build a solid tire that

improved on the currentsolid tires in today’s mar-ket. We started by build-ing a solid tire that uti-lizes your machine’s orig-inal equipment rims. By

using the proven press ontire technology, cus-tomers do not have tobuy a specialized rim.The solid tire is simplypressed onto your exist-

ing original equipmentwheel. Built for use in themost extreme operatingenvironments, the Kolos-sus Solid Tire utilizes anextremely tough rubbercompound throughoutthe entire tire. We do notadd fillers or recycledrubber to our tires whicheliminates peeling andseparation in the tire.Combine that with a verydeep tread depth and youhave a tire that runs for along time in the most se-vere environments. Oneof the biggest innovationsin the Kolossus Tire isthe ride. With two rows oflarge aperture holes thatgo deep into the body ofthe tire, the Kolossus Tirewill flex more than anyother solid tire on the

market. Solid Tire flex isa key feature in providinga better ride but also in-creases tire life. The morea solid tire can flex, bettertraction is achieved, thetires spin less thus de-creasing tire wear rates. For more information onthe Kolossus Solid Tireline please contact Ad-vance Tire at 800-445-6647 or e-mail [email protected].

The JRB PowerLatch™ multi-pingrabber coupler by Paladin, designed byMiller UK Limited, is one of the safest, most advanced multi-pin grabber cou-plers available for excavators and loaderbackhoes. It employs several advancedsafety features, including a patented Au-tomatic Blocking System (ABS) that en-sures coupler engagement is maintainedduring hydraulic failure. Designed towork with a wide range of buckets andattachments, the JRB PowerLatch hasthe most features, reduced offset and isone if the lightest, yet strongest excava-tor and loader backhoe multi-pin grab-ber couplers available today.

The JRB PowerLatch features back-up mechanical locks on both the frontand rear attachment pins that are in-dependent of the machine’s hydrauliclocking and operating system. The ABSmechanical backup safety system au-tomatically locks both pins so couplerengagement is maintained even if hy-draulic failure occurs. If the rear buck-et pin is not correctly engaged, ormissed during the attachment process, the ABS automatically secures thefront attachment pin. Attachments canonly be removed under operator con-trol when they are in a safe, curled po-sition preventing accidental release ofthe attachment.

In addition to its advanced safety fea-tures, the JRB PowerLatch includes re-duced offset that allows for greaterbreakout force. Ports connecting the hy-draulic hoses to the coupler are located

on top of the cylinder, making installa-tion much easier.

Paladin is a leading manufacturer ofcouplers and attachments throughoutNorth America and parts of the worldfor the construction, aggregate, agricul-ture, landscaping, land clearing, recy-cle, mining, demolition, utility, aviationand municipal market segments. A unique SKF “ThreeBarrier Solution” for con-veyor applications ex-posed to extremely harshconditions introduces abundle of environmental-ly friendly products de-signed to increase bear-ing reliability and extendservice life without theuse of solid lubricants, auxiliary seals, or largequantities of grease. Thisconveyor solution ideallysuits operations in themining, cement and ag-gregates, steel, forestry, and pulp and paper in-dustries, among others.

The “Three Barrier Solu-tion” consists of four inter-related components: Fac-tory sealed and upgradedSKF Explorer performanceclass spherical roller bear-ings, optimized split pillowblock housings, PosiTracPlus™ type seals for thehousing and 60 percent to80 percent grease fill in-side the housing.

The bearing is lubricat-ed, sealed and mountedinside the housing, whichis then internally greasedand sealed. This createsthree layers (“three barri-ers”) of protection for thebearing during operation:The integral bearing sealskeep the lubricant in andcontaminants out of thebearing cavity; the Posi-Trac Plus seals in thehousing protect againstextremely fine contami-nants and eliminate any

need for expensive auxil-iary (such as taconite)seals; and the greasepacked into the housingon both sides of thesealed bearing completethe protection.

Users can realize in-creased bearing reliabilityand service life and re-duced lubricant consump-tion, environmental im-pact, maintenance costsand unplanned downtime.
